The all-new 2019 Acura RDX has received the highest safety rating possible from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – Top Safety Pick+. And unlike some other models, which only receive the highest IIHS rating with upgraded headlights, the base RDX received the highest rating.
To earn the 2018 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests and an acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side small overlap test. A vehicle’s available front crash prevention system must also earn an advanced or superior rating, while its headlights have to receive at least a good rating.
The 2019 RDX received a good rating in all of the crash worthiness tests, which includes the new passenger-side small overlap test. The RDX’s front crash prevention system also avoided collisions in IIHS track tests at 12 and 25 mph. While the base RDX’s headlights received a good rating, what’s interesting is that the curve-adaptive headlights that come with the highest Advance trim, received the lower acceptable rating.
