BMW has revealed the second-generation 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe.
Though billed as an all-new model, the 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is more of a very heavy update to the outgoing car. It arrives with an identical 105.1-inch wheelbase, though overall, it is 0.7 inches longer (179.2 inches total) and an inch taller at 56.9 inches.
Two versions will be offered, the base 228 in both AWD and FWD, as well as a sportier M235 which will only be offered with AWD. Notably, these names now drop the “i” from them as that letter is now reserved exclusively for electric models.
The exterior of the 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe builds on that of the outgoing model with similar overall proportions. A new front end features swept-back headlights and more angular detailing including a redesigned kidney grille, which buyers will also be able to get illuminated should they so desire (though this option won’t be available until the middle of next year).
The profile of the new 2-Series now features a more pronounced Hofmeister kink, correcting the very subtle one that irked brand purists in the current generation. A more aggressive-looking rear features taillights inspired by those on the new X2 crossover with a notched design and a boxier overall design. The sportier M235 trim will also feature quad tailpipes.
All US 2-Series Gran Coupes come with the M Tech styling as standard, which means more aggressive front and rear bumper designs. An optional “M Sport Package,” adds darkened headlights and trim, and a rear spoiler.
New paint colors are also on offer, including two matte options and a selection of new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs.
Standard safety equipment includes lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, and parking sensors, while buyers can opt for adaptive cruise and a 3D camera system should they so choose.
Inside, the 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe has been thoroughly revised with a redesigned dashboard featuring a new curved display panel. This panel features a 10.25-inch driver’s display mounted next to a 10.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen and runs the brand’s iDrive 9 software system that supports over-the-air updates. This system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as updated voice-command features.
All models will come standard with keyless entry, wireless smartphone charging, and a 12-speaker Hartman Kardon sound system. Other standard features include backlit interior trim pieces, a head-up display, and heated front seats with a massage function.
The 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe also arrives with updated powertrain options. The standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been revised for more power and better efficiency. The base 228 model now makes 241 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque (up from 228 and 258 lb-ft), while the M235 now makes 312 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. A new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission replaces the previous generation’s eight-speed unit and is standard on all models.
An updated chassis featuring a stiffer structure and new suspension components provides more responsive handling as well as improved ride quality. An adaptive damper system comes standard on all new 2-Series Gran Coupe models. An updated braking system can be upgraded even further with an available M Sport setup that fits large 15.2-inch rotors with four-piston calipers up front and 13-inch rear disc brakes.
The 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe will go on sale in March of 2025 beginning with the AWD versions of the 228 and M235 which start at $42,775 and $50,675 respectively. A FWD version of the 228 will arrive later in mid-2025 with a starting price of $40,775.
