Audi e-tron quattro concept teased ahead of its Frankfurt debut

Audi has released a batch of teaser images that preview the new e-tron quattro concept that is going to debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept is a preview of the new Q6 crossover coupe, which will also be offered in an electric version that will take on the Tesla Model X.

Aston Martin gets into EVs: Electric Rapide and DBX confirmed

U.K. to begin testing "electric highways" that will charge electric vehicles wirelessly

Imagine how cool it would be to drive an electric vehicle without ever having to worry about stopping to charge it. The technology sounds out of this world, but it could soon become a reality, since Highways England has announced that it will soon start testing in-road wireless charging technology. The technology would charge electric vehicles wirelessly from under the road's surface - allowing EVs to be driven longer distances without having to stop and charge the car's battery.

Hyundai and Kia to introduce several electrified models by 2018

With the exception of the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima hybrids and the Kia Soul EV, Hyundai and Kia haven't really played very much in the "green" segment, but that's about to change. It's being reported that between the 2016 and 2018 model years, Hyundai and Kia are going to introduce four hybrids, two plug-in hybrids and an electric car in the U.S.

Elon Musk confirms Tesla Model X is almost here

It's taken quite a while, but Tesla's CEO Elon Musk has announced that the Model X SUV is set to debut in September. In an official letter, Musk discussed the status of the Model X and that the Tesla is currently "building more validation vehicles, executing final engineering and testing work, enabling our new manufacturing equipment and finalizing arrangements with our suppliers."

2016 Audi A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid priced at $38,825

Audi has released the pricing for its first plug-in hybrid, the 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid, which will start at $38,825 when it arrives later this year. The A3 e-tron is eligible for several federal and state tax incentives, including a $4,168 federal tax credit.

2016 Chevy Volt can officially drive 53 miles in EV mode

Chevy has announced that the all-new 2016 Chevy Volt can travel up to 53 miles in electric mode, which is nearly a 40 percent improvement over the first-generation Volt. The EPA has also certified that the new Volt has a combined rating of 106 MPGe.

Next-Gen Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid to have 30-35 mile EV range

One of the biggest criticisms of the current Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is the fact that it only has an all-electric driving range of 11 miles, which is much lower than the 38 miles that the current Chevy Volt can travel. Thankfully it's being reported that the next-generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid will have a longer range of 30-35 miles.

VW Golf TDI travels 8k miles on less than $300 of diesel

Last year Audi challenged a select group of journalists to travel over 800 miles on a single tank of diesel fuel in the Audi A3 TDI and now the VW group is at it again, but this time with the Golf TDI. VW has announced that the 2015 Golf TDI has set a new Guinness World Records achievement for the "lowest fuel consumption--48 U.S. contiguous States for a non-hybrid car" with a remarkable 81.17 mpg.

Nissan Leaf buyers now get free charging in Boston

Nissan has announced that its "No Charge to Charge" promotion is now available for Boston-area Nissan Leaf buyers. The promotion provides two years of free public charging and includes access to fast chargers that can charge the Leaf from empty to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

2016 Toyota Mirai fuel-cell vehicle can travel up to 312 miles

Toyota has announced that the upcoming 2016 Mirai fuel-cell vehicle will have a driving range of 312 miles on a single fill of hydrogen. The Mirai is also rated at an EPA estimated 67 miles MPGe.

2016 Nissan Leaf battery updates will bring a longer driving range

In an attempt to combat falling sales, Nissan has announced plans to unveil the 2016 Leaf, which is getting a midcycle update that will give it a longer driving range. The improvements to the Leaf includes a new battery that will deliver 30 kwh of power compared to the current 24 kwh battery. The more powerful battery could give the Leaf a driving range around 105-110 miles.

In 2011 Nissan launched the first mainstream electric car, the Leaf. To much fanfare, it was introduced and went on sale right about the same time as Chevy's Volt. While not technically direct competitors, since the Leaf is a true electric vehicle and the Volt a plug-in hybrid, they engaged in a sales battle over who would win the hard earned dollars of early eco adopters. Now four years later, it appears the Leaf has won and after a week living with one, I can easily understand why.

Chevy Bolt name to stay, even with Volt confusion

General Motors has reportedly decided to keep the "Bolt" name for its upcoming compact electric car, despite the apparent Volt confusion. Back in February, GM acknowledged that there could be some potential confusion for buyers, since the Bolt and Volt names are so close, but after conducting two studies, GM has decided to keep it.
