According to Autocar, several powertrain options are being considered for the Stinger. When the Stinger goes on sale later this year, it will arrive with a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0L and a twin-turbocharged 365-hp 3.3L V6. According to the report, a more powerful version could be in the works, with closer to around 400 horsepower.
A diesel version of the Stinger is also in the works, which would likely get the same 2.2L turbodiesel that powers the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. Don’t plan on that engine being offered here in the U.S.
At the other end of the spectrum, Kia may also be looking at hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Stinger. “We can utilize the currently available hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology,” Kia’s overseas product marketing boss Spencer Cho told Autocar. “Stinger will be able to benefit from those technologies.” A fully electric version is also possible.
