Ford announces plans for F-150 Hybrid, Mustang Hybrid and 300-mile electric SUV

Ford made a big announcement this morning by revealing its plans to introduce more electrified models, including an F-150 Hybrid, Mustang Hybrid and Transit Custom plug-in hybrid. The models, plus a new 300-mile range fully electric SUV are part of 13 new electrified models that Ford is going to release over the next five years.

“As more and more consumers around the world become interested in electrified vehicles, Ford is committed to being a leader in providing consumers with a broad range of electrified vehicles, services and solutions that make people’s lives better,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO. “Our investments and expanding lineup reflect our view that global offerings of electrified vehicles will exceed gasoline-powered vehicles within the next 15 years.”

Today Ford revealed what seven of the new 13 models will be:

1. A new electric SUV, which will arrive by 2020 with at least a 300 mile driving range. The electric SUV will be built at Ford’s Flat Rock plant and will be sold in North America, Europe and Asia.

2. An autonomous vehicle designed for commercial ride hailing or ride sharing, starting in North America. The hybrid vehicle will debut in 2021 and will be built at the Flat Rock plant

3. An F-150 Hybrid pickup will arrive by 2020 and sold in North America and the Middle East.

4. A Mustang Hybrid that will debut in 2020 and deliver V8 power and even more low-end torque.

5. A Transit Custom plug-in hybrid available in 2019 in Europe.

6 and 7. Two new, pursuit-rated hybrid police vehicles, one of which will be built in Chicago.
