The updates to the 2018 WRX and WRX STI include updated front styling, suspension tweaks, updated 19-inch wheels, better Brembo brakes for WRX STI and available Recaro seats. There’s also a new Performance Package for WRX models that adds a Recaro front driver seat, red-painted brake calipers with upgraded JURID brake pads and deletes the moonroof to reduce weight. Lastly there’s upgraded interior materials and the new EyeSight Driver Assist technology.

The WRX is powered by a 268-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes standard with a 6-speed manual, but a CVT is optional. The WRX STI gets a more powerful 305-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which can only be mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Hopefully you’re happy with these updates, since they will have to stick for a few years until at least the 2020 model year when the all-new WRX models are expected.

They should come up with a DCT for the STI

While I like the idea of what a DCT gives you, I’ve heard the DCT setup in the Evo X wasn’t as strong as the standard manual. That’s not to say it was bad…if you treated it well I’m sure it’d last for a long time. However for or every twenty 18-27 year olds I see driving an older STi, I might see one new STi (typically driven by someone over 30…notably also typically stock looking, clean, and well maintained.) Judging by the number of used blown EJ20T and EJ25T engines I can find on junk yard websites I’d say the average used STi owner wouldn’t last on a DCT setup.

  • Even at $36k, you get a lot of car in the STi.
