Saab Restarts Production of the 2014 9-3 Sedan in Sweden

It’s been over two years since the last Saab rolled off the line at its plant in Trollhattan, Sweden, but yesterday production of the Saab 9-3 sedan restarted. Saab’s new owner Na National Electric Vehicle Sweden officially started series production of the 9-3 sedan.
NEVS says that sales of the 9-3 Aero sedan will be initially focused on the Chinese market and only plans to initially produce 10 cars a week. Swedish customers can place an order for the 9-3 sedan on the automaker’s website starting next week, which lists it at 279,000 kronor ($42,500).

The last Saab cars to roll off the line were produced in 2011, when Saab was still controled by Spyker. Unfortunately Spyker filed bankruptcy on December 19, 2011, but NEVS recently bought Saab out of bankruptcy.

“It is truly a complex mission to start a car production process which has been still for two and a half years,” stated NEVS president Mattias Bergman. “It is very pleasing that we have embarked on a journey where we want to and will make a difference with our partners and customers.”

NEVS plans to produce an electric version of the Saab 9-3 in China next spring.
