Right now Lotus is known for making light sports cars, but Lotus may expand its sights a bit with a new SUV. Last week Lotus CEO Jen-Marc Gales stated at the Geneva Motor Show that the next all-new car from the brand will most likely be an SUV.
Gales joined Lotus last may and has been tasked with turning around the brand, which includes updating its current lineup. The first updated model, the Evora 400, debuted last week. To make Lotus more profitable, an SUV and even a sedan have been rumored. Gales has revealed that Lotus will make a decision about the SUV this year.

If the SUV does get the green light, Gales says that Lotus would “reinvent the category” instead of simply joining it. “We’d do an SUV that is very light, very fast on the track and has outstanding handling,” Gales stated.
