Lamborghini has confirmed that it is going to build a new SUV, which was originally previewed by the Urus concept in 2012. There have been several reports about the new Lamborghini SUV and today Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann finally announced that the new SUV has received the green light and that it will arrive in 2018.
“This is a proud moment for everybody in Lamborghini,” Winkelmann stated. “The introduction of a third model line endorses the stable and sustainable growth of the company and signifies for us the beginning of a new era.”

The Lamborghini SUV will be built in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which is going to get a big expansion to produce the SUV. It’s rumored that the Italian government gave Lamborghini 80 million euros in tax breaks and other incentives, which will help increase the plant from 80,000 square meters to around 150,000 square meters.

The SUV will share the same MLB Evo platform as the new Audi Q7, upcoming Bentley Bentayga and the next-generation Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg. The platform will get some tweaks to make sure it’s worthy of the Lamborghini badge, like the use of more carbon fiber to make it lighter.
