What we have here is Lamborghini’s latest concept, the Asterion LPI 910-4 Hybrid concept. As a platform to showcase Lamborghini’s new plug-in hybrid technology, the Asterion LPI 910-4 combines the style and performance that we expect from Lamborghini, but with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that can travel up to 31 miles in electric mode.
What’s with the Asterion LPI 910-4 name? If you’re familiar with Lamborghini’s naming conventions, you’ll know that LP stands for ‘longitudinale posteriore’, which is the position of the engine, which in this case is mounted mid-ship. The I stands for ‘ibrido’, which is the Italian word for Hybrid, the 910 tells you how much horsepower the car packs and 4 refers to the permanent 4WD system.
The Asterion LPI 910-4 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that mates a V10 engine with the three electric motors. The 5.2L V10 engine generates 610 horsepower, while the three electric motors add another 300 horsepower, giving the system a total 910 horsepower. The Asterion LPI 910-4 reaches 62 mph in three seconds flat and a top speed of 199 mph. It can also reach speeds up to 78 mph in pure electric mode.
On the outside the Asterior LPI 910-4 features all of the sharp angles like the rest of Lamborghini’s lineup, although in this case its creases are a bit softer. Inside its minimalistic interior has room for two passengers. The two seats are positioned higher than those in Lamborghini’s other models, ensuring a car for comfortable every day cruising rather than extreme performance and handling.
It’s not known if the Asterior LPI 910-4 will ever see production, but you can expect its hybrid powertrain to eventually come to life in one of Lamborghini’s future models.
