Summer is almost over, but that isn’t stopping Smart from debuting its new ForTwo Cabrio that is going to debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the ForTwo Coupe, the convertible version retains the same formula as the last model with retractable canvas roof design that retains the hatchback’s B-pillars.

The retractable roof can open in a mere 12 seconds – even when driving at full speed. The roof is available in three colors: black, blue denim and red. Smart says that the new ForTwo Cabrio “is the most rigid smart cabrio ever.” The torsional strength has been improved by around 15 percent compared with the predecessor.

When the ForTwo Cabrio arrives early next year, it will be available with a choice of two three-cylinder engines that are rated at 71-hp and 90-hp. Both engines can be mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a fully automatic twinamic dual clutch transmission.
