Mercedes-AMG has already confirmed plans to introduce the four-door GT in 2018 and now it’s being reported that the four-door will be the most powerful Mercedes-AMG model yet. According to Autocar, the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door could have around 800 horsepower, which would make it a lot more powerful than its Porsche Panamera rival.

The Mercedes-AMG GT four-door will arrive next year

The four-door AMG GT would also dust the AMG GT R with an extra 200 horsepower and will only be out done by the 1,000 horsepower Project One. The AMG-GT four-door is expected to launch by the fall of 2018 with styling that will be heavily influenced by the GT concept that debuted earlier this year.

Even though the GT four-door’s name is close to the GT coupe, under the skin it will take more DNA from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class than the GT. The GT four-door will ride on the same platform as the E-Class, but it will be heavily modified. Compared to the Panamera, the GT four-door will likely be longer and lower.

At launch the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 with over 600 horsepower, but if you wait until 2019 a more powerful hybrid version will be added. The AMG-GT four-door hybrid was previewed in the GT concept with its 4.0L V8 hybrid powertrain that generated 805 horsepower.
