According to Kia, the name ‘Stonic’ is derived from combining ‘Speedy’ and ‘Tonic’ together and refers to he first and last note in the musical scale. “Stonic suggests that the vehicle is agile and offers something fresh and new in the compact SUV segment.”

The sketches preview a sportier new entry in the compact crossover segment, which is currently dominated by models, like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and the new Toyota C-HR. Under the skin, the Stonic will likely share most of its DNA with the Rio.
