The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive has circled the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a record time of 7:56.234 minutes making it the first production electric vehicle to lap the track in under eight minutes. "Mercedes-AMG impressively shows the potential of the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive with the new record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Mercedes-AMG is the first vehicle manufacturer which makes it possible to circle the Nordschleife in under eight minutes with an electrically-powered series production vehicle. This record run is another proof for our constant innovative vigour," according to Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Mercedes-Benz has dropped the first official details about the new Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV concept, which is going to debut this weekend at the Shanghai Motor Show. Here's another leaked photo of the upcoming 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG, which is expected to be unveiled tonight in Detroit. The 2014 CLA is based on the A-Class hatchback, but gets styling that basically makes it a baby CLS. The CLA will be powered by the same engine lineup as the A-Class and the A45 AMG version will be powered by a 350 horsepower 2.0L turbocharged engine.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS is based on the E-Class, so it makes sense that the 2014 CLS 63 AMG get the same upgrades as the E63 AMG. What that means is that the CLS 63 AMG is also gets avaialable all-wheel-drive and the more powerful S-Model, which generates 577 horsepower from its 5.5L V8, up from 550 horsepower in the standard CLS63 AMG. The 2014 CLS 63 AMG S-Model accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. In addition to the increase in output, this special edge for the S-Model is also attributable in no small part to the performance-oriented all-wheel drive with a power distribution ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle).

Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the new 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, which gets a refreshed exterior, all-wheel-drive and a new S-Model. The E63 AMG is still available in sedan and wagon versions and is powered by a 5.5-liter AMG V8 Biturbo with 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft. of torque that is mated to a seven-speed automatic. The new S model bumps the power figures up to 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz has also announced that the CLS63 is also available as an S model.

The official specs haven't been released, but it will be offered in a new 4Matic version (all-wheel-drive).

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the refreshed 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which gets a completely new face, which is more drastic than the normal midlife changes we expect. The squared off face with its four individual headlights is gone and is now replaced one-piece headlights, while flowing light elements within the headlights help to retain the "four-eyed" appearance that is such a distinctive E-Class signature. Low beam and daytime running lights both come with partial LED as standard, while full-LED headlamps are available as an option for the first time in this class. The hood and front bumper have also been completely redesigned, which effectively does away with the squared off look.

Mercedes-Benz is reportedly preparing a bunch of new models for the U.S. Between now and 2020, Mercedes-Benz will refresh or replace 19 existing models and release 11 new models in the U.S. according to Steve Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. Mercedes-Benz and the Renault-Nissan Alliance have just announced plans to collaborate on two new projects to accelerate development of fuel-efficient powertrains.
