Yesterday Audi unveiled the all-new Audi A8 and A8 L models. The new fourth-generation A8 will arrive in the United States next spring as a 2019 model, but what does Audi have planned for the high-performance Audi S8? According to one report, the next S8 will borrow the twin-turbocharged V8 from the Porsche Panamera.

Evo claims that the next S8 will be powered by the same 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 as the Porsche Panamera Turbo, although it will be detuned a bit, so don’t expect the same 550 horsepower. An even more powerful S8 Plus is also in the works, which will use the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid’s powertrain that generates 680 horsepower, but again it will have slightly less power in the Audi.

While it may seem a bit odd that Audi is tapping Porsche for the S8’s powertrains, it’s actually not that crazy, since the A8 shares the same platform as the Panamera. Both S8 models will arrive shortly after the A8’s arrival.
