VW has just announced that it will build the XL1 plug-in hybrid in very limited numbers. In case you need a refresher, the XL1 grabs the title of the most fuel-efficient car in the world thanks to its plug-in hybrid system that helps it get up to 313 mpg on the European cycle.
The XL1 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system that features a two-cylinder diesel engine and an electric motor. The plug-in hybrid system puts out a total 74 horsepower and enables the XL1 to travel up to 31 miles in full electric mode. The two-seater XL1 only weighs 1,753 pounds and takes 12.7 seconds to reach 0-62 mph.
VW is going to build the XL1 at its Osnabrück plant in Germany. VW has not announced any pricing details.
