Toyota has just unveiled the full electric version of the Toyota iQ, which is sold here as the Scion iQ. The 2013 Toyota iQ EV is powered by a 47kW electric motor that is mated to a lithium-ion battery with a range of approximately 53 miles.

The Toyota iQ EV is almost identical to the gas-powered iQ, but is a bit longer and weighs in at 275 pounds more. It's electric motor will accelerate the small iQ from 0-62 mph in 14 seconds and gives it a top speed of 78 mph. Using a 230-volt outlet means that it only takes around three hours to fully recharge the iQ EV and a rapid charger can charge its battery up to 80 percent in 15 minutes.

Unfortunately if you were hoping to get your hands on the iQ EV, you will be disappointed to hear that Toyota has revised its plans. It is being reported that Toyota has drops plans for widespread sales of the new iQ EV. Toyota will reportedly only produce 100 iQ EVs for consumption in the US and Japan.

"The current capabilities of electric vehicles do not meet society's needs, whether it may be the distance the cars can run, or the costs, or how it takes a long time to charge," said, Takeshi Uchiyamada, Toyota's vice chairman.
