BMW is developing other variants of the next generation 1 Series including a Gran Turismo that was recently caught testing.
BMW currently has the 5 Series GT and is set to release a 3 Series GT as well. The 1 Series GT will be a more practical five-door version of the third-generation 1 Series and is expected to launch for the 2014 model year. It's based on the same platform as the rest of the new 1 Series lineup and the next-generation Mini family. The 1 Series GT is expected to be front-wheel-drive, which the rest of the next 1 Series models are expected to be as well. The current 1 Series models are expected to be renamed the 2 Series.
