Now that the Pontiac G8 is officially dead there had been rumors of it living on as a Chevy. Many of us were hoping that GM would release a consumer version of its upcoming 2011 Chevy Caprice police patrol vehicle. Well those rumors were put to rest and now Bob Lutz has confirmed that the next generation Chevy Impala will keep its front-wheel-drive layout.

Lutz didn't provide much detail about the next Impala, only saying that it will be slightly larger. The next Impala will also be compatible with GM's hybrid technology, so an Impala hybrid is expected at some point.

Holy f**k! That has to be one of the ugliest cars ever made. For GM's sake, let's hope the new one is a clean sheet design.

slap:

Ugly and bland. And a stupid spoiler on a "family" car. A spoiler on a car like that is a sign that says that the driver is an idiot.

They make it boring and underpowered so that Howie Long can do his may the best car win commericials comparing the fuel mileage to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. It's about making Obama happy, not GM's customers (except the rich with the CTS-V) Forget about any chance for an Impala SS.

I wouldn't say forget about any chance at an SS version. There are now rumors of a twin turbo LLT making around the neighborhood of 425 hp, same engine that was in the Jay Leno Camaro. It would need to be AWD to handle that power in a FWD Impala, but that leaves the option for an SS there. Or then can finally update the LS4. It might make it into the Camaro as well, since Gen V small blocks are going to start pushing 450-500 hp.
