The general manager for Buick GMC, Susan Docherty recently did a web chat on the GM FastLane blog where she stated that the new GMC Terrain is not going to be offered with a diesel engine or a Denali version.
Docherty also stated that GM has no plans to produce a Buick version of the Chevy Equinox/ GMC Terrain. GM originally planned to produce a Buick version, but pulled the plug in late August due to negative feedback. Docherty called out the early success of the Terrain by announcing that there has been limited availability, which should improve in October.

I'm fine with no Denali version but I'm curious about the no diesel engine. I don't know enough to really pass judgement though.

Women drive these things because they have 2.2 kids and believe they need something of this size to be safe. Hence GM sees a diesel version as a non-seller, ie women are more likely to prefer gas to diesel. (Either way they are more likely to fill either one with gas...)
(Note I have no idea if any of that is true, but I can so totally see that train of thought coming from the boardroom.)

@ Brian -
I was going to argue your statements ... until the last sentence. Sadly, I can see them thinking exactly that.

No diesel: That's OK.
No Denali: No problem.
No ugly: <----- major issue
WTF. I know GM bought into the Transformer series for it's vehicles, but I didn't know they bought into the next National Lampoon Vacation movie too. It looks like the next gen Wagon Queen Family Truckster.
Ditch the freakin' fenders GM. I still can't believe my tax dollars are paying the mortgages of the houses of the designers who crank out this ugly crap. You did fine with 75% of the vehicle, what happened?
Honestly, as a red-blooded American, how can I make fun of the ugly new Acura lineup when Gov't Motors is making this abortion.

It's unfortunate that so few diesel options are out, especially as the US gov is offering tax incentives....but right now the only vehicle on the list I'd buy is the Q7. I agree it's ugly, maybe Toyota and GM are fighting for ugliest SUV.

The vehicle is fine the way it is. That's why GM also have a Caddy and Chevy version to suit your needs. If you want they might even be willing to put a Honda or Toyota logo on it for you....
The Denali version isn't need since you obviously are looking for a near luxo vehicle. The diesel isn't needed since the price of diesel is too high and as commented before, people may assume that regular gas could be filled in it...

Ghastly. Looks like somebody drank their lunch, took a block of styrofoam and a kitchen knife and cut out the shape like a boy scout hot rod derby competition.
If it HAD a diesel, it might be more interesting to me personally; however, I don't think I could get past the ugly to get into that car every morning.
Lots more prettier suvs on the market imo. I won't go into the quality issue or the bankruptcy thing - don't get me started.

I know diesel prices fluctuate around the country, but in CT the long term historic price of diesel has beel inline with regular unleaded (sans late '06 to mid '08). Maybe if they stopped taxing it more than petrol people could realize the full benefit. For this particular thing, I have a feeling it's more due to GM not having a good small diesel that meets 50 state emissions.
