Another Sketch of Subaru's 086A (FT-86) STI Coupe

Subaru has given the details of what we can expect to see in Tokyo next month, but unfortunately we will not see a concept version of its version of the FT-86 coupe that it is working on with Toyota. For now we have to make due with the numerous sketches and spy photos.

More details continue to surface about Subaru's version (086A) and now we have more details of what might be in store for the STI version. According Japanese publication Holiday Auto, the regular Subaru 086A will be very close to Toyota's version, although it will have subtle styling tweaks, but will be powered by the same 2.0L flat-four boxer engine. The STI version gets more exciting by using the 2.5L flat-four with between 240-250 horsepower. The STI version would also get more styling tweaks to make room for a wider track and wheels. The addition of STi only aero parts lke a unique front bumper and rear spoiler are also expected.

Ravicai:

I wonder why this thing isn't getting the 300hp version currently in the Impreza WRX STI. Although it's probably a mute point. Look at this...

Current Gen WRX STI;
3400 lbs, 305hp

086A Concept
2400 lbs, 240-250hp

If this car really does weigh a 1000 lbs less, it will probably be just as fast (or likely faster) then the present gen WRX STI.

Blue Z34:

O God! Rich! Too bad it won't really look like that. But this should give Genesis Coupe a run for it's money, if it makes it to production. Good competition will hopefully push Hyundai turn up the boost on their turbo or at least put the 3.8 on a diet. Then finally we will have some good rear wheel/ all-wheel-drive entry level coupes that actually perform a 1/4 in under 15 seconds! Yaaaay

JohnBo:

I don't see a reason why the production version of this car can't come out looking like this. This is a Subaru, not a Toyota, their brand image is not catered for an older audience

There's nothing radical or too sporty about this picture, its an STI after all, the big brother of the WRX.

I was getting so sick of the egg looking STI, this is a much needed improvement.

Peter:

Keep it lightweight and under $30,000. Don't make another heavyweight sports car such as the Genesis, Eclipse, or 370z.
Wow!, 250hp without a turbo.

Brian:

Umm, 250hp is not happening on a Subaru flat 4 without turbo.

And WTF is this? When did a "sport" coupe have to look like it came straight out of the Fast and Furious? God something that had nice subtle styling would be good.
