Mitsubishi has released the pricing for its top Lancer Evolution model, the Lancer Evolution MR Touring. The MR Touring model starts at $40,990 and easily moves the car into the price range of many luxury models.

The MR Touring comes standard with the all the good stuff as the MR model, which includes the 291-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, six-speed dual clutch transmission, S-AWC all-wheel-drive system, Brembo brakes and 18-inch BBS wheels. What the Touring adds is a standard glass sunroof, a subtle lip spoiler and leather heated Recaro seats.

If those features aren't enough Mitsubishi has a list of extra's that can be added to the car and if you go crazy enough and select all of them you're looking at a price tag of $52,728. Wow!

Timeless:

52K is reaching the really nice sedan territory. I do not believe I would take this over an M3 or C63AMG.

WSE:

Wow... for that price the interior had better be lined with Spotted Owl feathers...

Kawi:

What ever happened to lightening the cars to improve performance?

cavedog:

I would much rather buy a 2nd hand M3 or Lexus ISF.

Avatar:

52k buys a lot of cars that are much better...

Andrew:

This is a really nice car. I drove an 07 a few months ago and it was new for $32K. The center of gravity in this car is well in line for racing.

In the end, you don't care what the car on the outside is, as long as it gets the job done. People looking at this car would purchase it just to watch their buddies jaws drop when it dusts them.

optizac:

@ Andrew

False, people buy this car for a lot of different reasons, 'dusting' people is not one of them. There are plenty of cars for less money that 'dust' this car.

People buy this car for several other reasons including, autocross, rallycross, fufilling teenage fantasies, and lack of interior refinement. Some people don't like the idea of a luxury car, because luxury usually is analog to old and soft; so buying cars that are rugged and performance first is actually a plus for some.

I don't know, Andrew. For 52K it better look terrific on the outside, the inside and all around AND get the job done! And the reason everyone says 52K instead of 40K is because you don't get into this price range without getting all the options.

This car will be pretty quick and should hold it's own. But line it up against other 52K cars and it will be obvious that it is out of its league.

But hey, if people will pay 52K for this car, why not ask for it.

Blue Z34:

Wooow... I mean I'm sure it's a very nice car. And when you sit inside of it and play with all the features you'd probably be able to tell why it's more money than a regular MR. But 52k.... Come on now... I might pay that for the FQ-400...but this thing offers almost no performance increase at all compared to the regular MR. Very rich car. But definately not worth 52k. And the nav option is more money than my 370's...that's just dumb. And while I was never a fan of the 4 door sports sedan look...it looks even worse without the big obnoctious spoiler.

Noya:

@ b2man,
Sorry, but the only option most people go for in a spendy car is Nav, not the $515 strut brace and $900 side skirts and every other option to crank the price up $12k. This isn't a Mercedes.

The Evo 10 GSR bases at $33,500 and destroys any car in it's price range. They don't seem to sell well at MSRP, so most dealers will let them go for near invoice ($31k).

And if you're not scared of voiding the warranty (only to screw Mitsu and put back the stock ECU if something goes BOOM), Vishnu Tuning offers an ECU upgrade for $499 that when paired with an aftermarket exhaust ($1,000) nets +100bhp and +100lb.ft and drops the 1/4 mile from 13.6@101mph down to 12.7@109mph.

b2man:

@ Noya,
Your probibly right. Mercedes & BMW sell their options in one or two packages...but not too many individual peices.

I was just thinking that if you were going to spend 40K for the base car:
1. There are a lot of other base cars for less money.
2. Or just spend the extra 12K and get everything since your going over 40k anyway.

But thats just my thinking.

vtfo0lio:

I'm a huge fan of Evolutions. I've loved them since the Evo IV and even I think the price of this car is ludicrous. The way I see it: heated front seats, sunroof, 9 speakers, navigation system, etc. do not belong on a car that was bred through rally competition. All of these dilutes the character of the car and in my opinion hurts its image. I'd rather buy an RS4 if I wanted an AWD luxo-monster but that's just me.

Crank:

Just ignore those ignorants, everyone who hates this car here got accidentaly beaten while driving a BMW. Just forget it guys, there is no car that can beat this devil when it comes to move and curve, so whoever says its shit, trust me he has no taste nor has he knowledge. regarding the price, me as a Evo fanatic, i support the major here, its too expensive, thats why i sticked to my evo 6.

Brian:

@Crank,

Well actually your Evo 6 would probably walk all over this...

Like vtfo0lio said, this was/is a car born from rally racing. It's suppose to be about the driving experience. Not about plush leather this and comfort that. Hell A/C should be an option. Frankly an interior should be an option.

You should be buying an Evo or Sti for the tech/performance, not the comfort and ride.

dracolnyte:

an evo just doesnt look like an evo without a giant spoiler...

Miki:

Only few cars can handle corners and track like this. The price is about right. M3 is joke compared to this car.
