Subaru will be showing off the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show next month.

The gullwing Hybrid Tourer Concept is a four-passenger concept that Subaru describes as "a new proposal for the future of [the] grand touring car."

The Hybrid Tourer Concept is powered by a horizontally opposed 2.0L direct injection turbocharged four cylinder mated to a hybrid motor system with lithium-ion batteries. The hybrid system is a two-motor system with a motor in the front and rear of the car. During normal driving the front motor is primarily used, but at start up and extremely low speeds the rear motor is mainly used.

Subaru of course didn't give any details if this concept will ever see production.

Brian:

I wonder if the windows roll down.

gilly:

haha...imagine opening the door to this thing at the grocery store....haha

b2man:

Not bad looking. But I gotta agree with gilly. And could you also imagine opening the door in the wind!

tomt:

I can't see the gull wing working in a climate that isn't mild all year long. Open one door that big in the cold an there goes all your heat. A gull wing has to be completely opened to provide egress. Not good in climates with lots of mosquitoes and insects. Not sure this works pulling up to the gas pump though.

Gullwing doors are tremendously impractical in a daily driver.

But this is a concept car. They almost require impractical things. The question is: What are they connected to? Picture this overall shape with 4 doors and a cross between a hatchback and a station wagons rear. Could we be looking at a future Forrester?
