When the current Mazda2 aka Mazda Demio was unveiled Mazda had no plans to sell it in North America, although many of us wanted it. Well times have changed and President and CEO of Mazda's North American Operations Jim O'Sullivan has now confirmed to Mazda dealers that the Mazda2 will go on sale in the U.S. by the end of 2010. The Mazda2 shares its platform with the upcoming Ford Fiesta.
O'Sullivan cited that changing attitudes toward small cars in the U.S. is what made it possible for the introduction of the Mazda2. The US-spec Mazda2 is expected to debut at the 2009 LA Auto Show later this year.

This is exciting news! With this and the Ford Fiesta coming ( I know, there the same platform), they should give Toyota and Honda a little compotish. I'm not sure if I like the Fiesta or the Mazda2's looks better.
Now, if we could just get marriage equality legal in all states, that would be fabulous!

Fabulous!?!
This car looks alright, but I'd rather rock a Fiesta. I'm not ripping on the 2 or anything, Great car & all but... yea... Fiesta!

The best thing about this car should be the price. A bottom of the line Mazda 3 starts at $15k, so this should start around $12k - $13k.
I think given how fun a Mazda 3 is to drive, this should blow away the other cars in its class when it comes to the US.

Good to see it coming here, as well as to see the ice thawing on the 'US consumers don't want small, efficient cars' mindset.

I'll believe it when I see the sales figures. I'm ok with the M2 and the Fiesta et.al. finally making the jump to the U.S. but I'm not betting on any big sales numbers.
