GM'S board is meeting again to discuss the fate of the Opel and Vauxhall brands and a decision could come out as early as today. The board is expected to hold its second round of meetings today after it failed to make a decision last month.
Currently there are two bidders for Opel, RHJ and Magna. Germany's organized labor is supporting a sale to Magna because it is expected to save more jobs in Germany. On the other hand GM is worried that a sale to Magna would hurt GM's Russian business. Although GM could delay the announcement again, political pressure may bring a decision sooner than later.

it blows my mind that GM doesnt use Opel styling in the US because its so much better than anything they offer here!

@ Phil:
Saturn Aura (resembles Euro-cousin, Vectra)
Saturn Astra (Opel Astra...)
Saturn Sky (influenced by Vauxhall VX Lightning Concept)
All three cars were either influenced by Opel/Vauxhall styling, or were rebadged Opels.
I say that GM should slowly phase out its current Chevy lineup and replace it with Opels/Vauxhalls rebadged as Chevys; kill Chevy trucks because GMC exists for a reason.

Phil, we have been over this before last month....
The only thing in Saturn's lineup that Opel doesn't have is the Outlook.
Sky = Opel GT
Aura = Insignia
Vue = Antara
Astra = Astra
That is from the last thread.

Phil said styling, not shared platforms.
Saturn doesn't have those cool lines in the hood that follow the A-pillar. The headlamp/fascia components are bland compared to the more agressive looking Opel. The bodyside area is just a slab on the Saturn compared to those beautiful creases on the Insignia. I can go on...
Bring Opel here in it's current form please GM. Or sell me some of that shizz you are smoking that made you decide to turn the beautiful Insignia into the frog you call an Aura.
Yeah, we've discussed this before. But maybe someday, someone at GM will actually seek out real world advice and see our posts.

The only thing different between those cars listed above is the badge, aka rebadged aka badge engineered. They are the same cars...
Look up the Opel Vectra, looks awfully familiar doesn't it? The refresh came out in 2005, Aura came out in 2006. Insignia replaced the Vectra, guess what the new Aura would have looked like...
Opel GT came out 2006, Saturn Sky, 2006. Again, only difference is badge.
New model Astra for Opel was 2004, Saturn was 2008. The sales were so bad here in the states that GM canceled it before they sold Saturn to Penske. Heck, the GTOs sold more a year here then the Astra did, and those were limited to about 14k in 2004 and 16k for 2005 and 2006 do to production limits...
Opel/Saturn are clones. That was GM's plan for them moving forward. Just like Vauxhall/Opel are clones and some Holdens are cloned into Vauxhall/Opels. You want a Opel now and not then? Okay, buy a Buick Regal when it gets here. The Insignia and Regal are the same minus grill, fog lights, and third brake light.

Opel -> Saturn
What's with the Saturn commercials? Aren't they like a billion years too late? GM Should've marketed the brand, say, five years ago. There was some marketing in the beginning, way back when, and "that's it". Now they have arguably the best-looking cars of the US GM lineup, and you know the rest of the story...
