Buick Hints at a Possible Premium Compact with Buick Avant Concept

GM newest release on the recently launched site "The Lab" features a new Buick concept, the Buick Avant, which is meant to study the possibility of small premium models.

"We agreed that a small premium vehicle shouldn't be viewed as a compromise in any way," says Andrew Smith, Director of Advanced Design at GM's tech center in Warren. "It isn't a vehicle you buy when you can't afford the larger size version. It should be unapologetic of size and just make you feel great."

In total GM came up with six exterior and four exterior designs.

I thought the elephant man was ugly.....

DuDe:

The wording in the message is great; however, the concept's design is ugly.

Jeremy:

It is pretty ugly, but I am not worried because the actual car will look nothing like this.

OptiZac:

Great idea, the concept renderings are terrible. Only thing that is right so far is that it has four wheels.

Brian:

I'm 100% positive car designers are pretty much pointless...

If you can draw you could come up with a "concept" car...

All you need are wheels that come up the window, with little to no tread. Windows that are less than a foot tall. Headlights that are either a tiny pin point of light, or a small sliver. An overly aerodynamic roofline and cruves (which leads to piss poor visibility.) *sigh*...

How about a practical car that might be nice and still could be fun to drive?! Think they could teach you how to draw one of those in school, eh? But hey, school rarely prepares you for the real world.

I really like it, besides the toothy grill.

Also they should brand it under Caddy since everyone perceives Buick as old man's ride.

Andrew :

I really like the mock ups that are in the dark background images. ( 2 and 5 )

I could see this selling well if it was designed similar to this concept.

FixItAgainTony:

Concept 3 (top center) looks too much like the Batmobile. It just needs wings in the back. And I agree with Brian on the foot-tall windows. Actually, I was guessing even less than that much showing.
I'm thinking the guys who came up with this concept came up with the Regatta...um, I mean Reatta, except this time they chopped the trunk off and tried to pimp it up with "muscle" bulges.

And Hanz, the Caddies (land yachts) are among the most popular in Rancho Mirage (OLD Reagan country) California. It's hard to shake that image, especially with GM's odd marketing (Bob Dylan - old, Arrowsmith - old, etc.) choices.
