Breaking News: Say Goodbye to Saturn...Penske Walks!

2009-saturn-aura-rear.jpg
Well for sometime now we've all been under the assumption that Penske Automotive Group was going to acquire the Saturn brand from GM. The deal involved Penske buying the brand and GM would continue to provide Saturn vehicles on a contract basis...well it looks like that deal is off.

GM issued a statement tonight that states "Penske Automotive Group (PAG) has decided to terminate discussions with General Motors to acquire Saturn."

It looks like Penske was having problems finding other products to sell after the contract with GM ended. GM originally planned on only supplying the Outlook, Aura and Vue until the end of next year. As a result of this announcement, Saturn will officially join Pontiac and Oldsmobile six feet under.

Thinning the herd....

wvo:

Now we won't have to watch that same ol Saturn commercial.

zippy:

What? I thought it was gone? Saturn isn't gone yet? What?

426Hemi:

Bye Saturn!

SteelCity1981:

LOL, at the latest Saturn commercial. "Saturn has cars that Americans want to buy" Apparently not.....

I never really cared for Saturns. To me they just reminded me of cheap, economic, plastic cars up until two years ago.

Mr. D:

Never got the opportunity to make it to the 20-years of sales milestone. I never owned one, but I did respect them.

Rust in Peace Saturn.

WS:

Hopefully the end of an era of stunning mismanagement by GM and stunning abuses perpetrated by the UAW.

Noya:

Good riddance!

I can't believe all these re-bodied and re-badged GM brands lasted this long. You can only disguise a POS in different wrappers for so long...

Maybe GM can at least catch up to Ford quality (however funny that may sound) now that they've trimmed most of the fat .

426Hemi:

Wait, Noya said WHAT?!?

(Wow I missed a lot!)
