Top Ten Best-Selling Cars in July 2009 Were...

2010_toyota_prius_p_silver.jpg
The sales numbers for last month are just coming in and now we have the list of the top ten best-selling cars.

As expected the Ford F-150 and Toyota Camry are at the top of the list, but the surprises this time can partly be attributed to "Cash for Clunkers." The Ford Focus was the top vehicle chosen by buyers that traded in their old cars, which added it to July's top ten list. The Toyota Prius also makes an appearance at the number 10 spot.

* Ford F-Series: 36,327
* Toyota Camry: 33,974
* Honda Civic: 30,037
* Honda Accord: 29,774
* Toyota Corolla: 29,593
* Chevy Silverado: 27,617
* Ford Focus: 21,830
* Ford Escape: 20,241
* Nissan Altima: 19,252
* Toyota Prius: 19,173

Totenglocke:

Did anyone else notice that just about every car on that list is incredibly ugly / boring?

l3admonky:

That's because that's what the majority of people want. They don't care about turbochargers, superchargers, lightweight wheels, sporty handling etc. They just want a good value, quality, safety, decent resale value, and economy, which if you look at the list, most fo these care fit that.

Could they have picked a car that's a bit more fun to drive while maybe sacrificing a few other things a little? Yes, but that's not how they think. I don't mind giving up 1-3 mpg to buy a car that puts a smile on my face when I drive it and I think most other enthusiasts would agree. The people on this list are the majority though and that's who automakers cater to so I'm just glad that there's still a few models out there that are a good fit for me. I say let them buy their bland vehicles. I'll blow past them with a big smile on my face.

Totenglocke:

I wasn't talking about performance, I was talking about styling. Even as "meh" as a Cobalt coupe is, it's still way better looking than most vehicles on that list.

nvjed55:

The Cobalt looks idiotic and it's made by GM...nuff said.

Bungle:

I'm glad to see that there only 1 model from from Government Motors on that list, hopefully in the coming months Silverado sales tank and something from Ford or maybe even one of the imports takes its place.

CS:

I'm glad Ford is at the top. I bought shares of them back in Nov. when their shares were below $2 and now they are trading around $8. That's a 400% increase on my investment and I'm glad it's an American company providing that kind of return.

Trooper Bri:

Good to hear someone else out hear saw the writing on the wall and bought into Ford on a strong hunch. Now I wish i had bought more! Oh well.

I'm a bit surprised the Escape is still on the list. I wonder if there's a chance the Fusion can squeeze it's way onto the list next month. My barber bought the Fusion Hybrid for his wife (cash for clunker deal), and my neighbor did the same.

gilly:

Completely agree with CS and Trooper...bought some Ford at $2.83 myself ( after they announced that were not taking gov. funds)...one of the best stocks around

LLC:

I bought Microsoft at $2 a few decades ago. I haven't worked for the last decade and spend much of my spare time surfing my favorite sites. Hooray for me.

dark:

yeah lets have the silverado sales tank so all the money spent on gm is just a waste. atleast if it starts doing even better than this list, maybe the tax payers will get some of their money back.
