Honda is reportedly working on a new electric vehicle to battle the Nissan LEAF and future Toyota EV. Although Honda has mainly focused on hydrogen powered models like the FCX Clarity, future tighter emissions standards and more demand for zero emissions vehicles may be forcing Honda to produce an EV.

Japan's Nikkei business daily claims that Honda's new EV is set for a debut in 2015, but a prototype is expected to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show this October. The EV is expected to be about the size of a minicar.

What is this picture?

This can't be what's it's going to look like..I mean did I just wake up in the early 90's?

We go from the FCX to this?!

If I didn't know better, I'd say it's been shopped.

Scott:

Ford Fiesta anyone?

kw:

Yah, that's a really uninspiring look. People have to learn from makes like Tesla that EV's don't have to look like golf carts, and they won't sell until they look better.

SteelCity1981:

Wow did honda go back in time and pull the design team from the late 80's to design this car.? This thing is pretty damn ugly.

Ravicai:

Clearly the Geo Metro will totally pwn this car, in styling at the very least.

Chad:

Wow, this should be named the Yugo 2000.

Trooper Bri:

When a Fiesta and Honda have sex, it's the kids that suffer...

On the reality side, it will probably sell well in cities outside of America. Laugh at the boxy shape we will, but it probably has more usable space than a sporty little electric jellybean. And that's it's intended target, the Point A-B crowd.

Noya:

Are you guys stupid?

The photo is of their EV prototype from like 1998-2000.

sintekk:

Call me backwards but I actually like it. I miss the boxy Japanese styling of the 80's. I used to have a 4WD Civic wagon that looked almost identical. Thing was a snowmobile in the winter and easily the best car I've ever owned.
