The current Honda S2000 is officially going to end production at the end of 2009. Honda has been rumored to be working on a replacement for the past few years, but Honda has yet to release any details about the S2000's successor.
Now according to 7tune there are rumors that the successor will feature FWD and a 2nd-generation hybrid driveline that will be shared with the Accord. If this actually becomes a reality the next S2000 will share nothing with the current model expect the its name and the number of doors. The S2000 will also be a step above the new hybrid CR-Z. The hybrid S2000 will also feature a retractable hard top and is expected to go on sale in 2012.
Let's hope that these rumors aren't true...

I honestly dont believe this could even be a possiblity! why would you replace a sporty little car with a front wheel drive hybrid?? (which looks rediculous in the picture above) It is total nonsense...

That and why would it share a powetrain with the Accord? A car that is a whole class size larger than it...
Personally I think they are talking about the CR-Z.

This car's just too slick to be FWD. A hybrid may be, but not FWD. A car this fine needs to be RBAWD (Rear Biased All Wheel Drive).

Unless the sticker price was much less than the s2000's, I don't think many people would buy it, 30k+ puts this in a pretty competitve price range and I'm not sure that demographic cares all that much about hybrid options. The retractable hardtop is a nice option, but I wonder if you can get it as a rag top and shave some weight. I doubt AWD will be added, just more weight and fuel economy (if that's what they're going for with a hybrid drive). I'm betting this is just a rumor.
I actually like the style. Even the CR-Z looks good in my opinion....but what's with this big hybrid kick Honda's one, they're an engine maker....I'd take a K20 6 speed over this hybrid drive.
Wasn't the accord (at least in the us) going to be diesel instead of hybrid? Didn't Europe/UK also go this way? Maybe the hybrid will be a JDM only thing....but that still doesn't explain the FWD rumor.

LOVE the design above (even though Honda typically doesn't produce concepts in that form). Hybrid is a good idea though, just FWD may not be the best decision ever. (unless it brings the weight ratio back to near 50/50).

The car is fine aside from the GT-R roof, which is retarded looking. Honda's production cars are just too tame and uninspiring.

FWD S2000?

I have seend FWD cars with 500HP on it running just fine, and beating crap out of RWD. There is nothing wrong with FWD.

I say a FWD S2000 is no S2000 at all. I love mine. 500hp in a fwd is a mess. You need race style clutches and laggy, laggy turbos to hit 500hp in a fwd vehicle. Barely even daily drivable. It can't do anything but go in a straight line. There are better options for that if you want to drag, say late model Mustangs and LS1 based gm cars. They usually can go fast for cheap too.
