Honda is issuing a recall of model year 2001 Accords and Civics to fix an issue with the driver's side airbag. Apparently the driver's side airbag in effected vehicles could inflate with so much excessive force that it could rupture the inflator module. If the inflator is ruptured metal shards from the explosion could rip through the airbag, thereby hurting the driver and passengers.
Owners of affected 2001 Accords and Civics will be able to bring their vehicles into their nearest Honda dealer to have the inflator replaced, free of charge.

Didn't the airbag inflator Honda used was made by a US/Canada company? Whose problems are these?
Even an QC at the inflator supplier factory and incoming QC sampling check may still sometimes missed 1 or more defective component.

hmmmmm, lets think about this............How many recalls has Toyota, GM, Ford and Chrysler had? Honda is by far the best manufacturer in the "recall" class. Jay you clearly need to get your head out of the sand and do some research before you make a comment like that.

I have a 2001 civic, and I think this is the third recall I've had for it. Other then brakes and tires I've only spent 80$ in repairs for it, and that's after 260,000 km and it still drives like new. I'll happily buy another Honda any day.

You know it isn't about the number of recalls a company has....
So far GM hasn't had this many deadly faults with their products.
It seems Honda continues to recall things that can cause exteme damage or death to it's driver or passengers...

"So far GM hasn't had this many deadly faults with their products."
Correct. It's because the lifespan of GM is so far surpassed by Honda vehicles, they usually are dead long before they realize something smaller is viably wrong with them.

The 2001 Civics are particularly bad. Just check their rate of automatic transmission failure and camshafts wearing out on the DOHC models.

Yes the 2001 Civis did have some auto transmission problems. But usually it’s related to not changing the ATF and or driving the car much harder then normal. Mine as 185k miles still going strong...
FYI - The 01 Civics did not come with a DOHC engine. That came in with the 2002 SI so you need to get your facts straight. And the K20/k24 line of engines are VERY durable. They use them in the Civic SI, Accord, CRV, Element, Acura RSX, TSX and RDX and you don’t see them having issues. So I’m not sure where you got this cam shaft wear idea from. If it has happened I’m sure it’s an isolated incident.
Also there are only about 4000 Civics affected from what I’ve heard. I’m not sure about how many accords though. I think it’s good that they will make things right even after the car is 8 years old.
I'm planning on giving my current Civic to my brother and am going to buy another soon. It's true what they say about Honda owners... most of us are very loyal.. but for a good reason!
