I wonder if any auto enthusiasts really care about this storyline anymore. It seems like Chrysler will have to offer a pretty amazing vehicle to get anyone to buy them again.....and it doesn't seem they have one coming out in the near future.

I'm actually really excited to have Fiat back over here, especially if they bring Alfa with them. I'm expecting good things from them

Trooper Bri:

While i also could care less about almost everything made under the Chrysler brands, i do care about our economy and honest, hardworking people having jobs to continue supporting their families.

Fiat does have several vehicles that are more attractive than the boxy, generic look-alikes Chrysler currently builds. Just getting some fresh talent to design something without the silly crosshair grille on just about every car they make will be a big step.
And having small, fuel efficient cars available will also be a big help. The Hemi wasn't saving Chrysler 4 or 5 years ago, and it still isn't. Nor will it ever in the future.

Hopefully Fiat will consider building a plant (or plants) in Tennessee or one of the other auto friendly states, and slowly transfer manufacturing out from the grip of the UAW so they can actually build vehicles at competetive pricing (and a profit!).

Then if the unemployed UAW workers really want to work for a living, they can move where the jobs went and apply for a job based on their skills like the rest of us. The lazy or unskilled ones that were protected by useless, outdated labor laws can go live under a bridge, or work at Taco Bell. I wonder if they'd try and form a new union? United Bridge Dwellers (UBD), or the United Taco Builders (UTB).

Please remember. I don't hate all unions. Many are still critical today (especially in aviation and aerospace), but i simply have zero respect for unions that feel they are better than the rest of the world and refuse to see otherwise. They would rather see their employer go under than make some concessions. You listening Boston Globe employees?

Ok Fiat fans. There's pretty good reason to believe the USD is going to weaken against foreign currencies as inflation sets in over the next couple years. Since we're printing way more money than other nations what do you think is going to happen to the cost of a foreign built Fiat? Hope all you want about Fiat being here in the the next couple of years, but they simply will cost too much to sell. Wishing for Fiat to take over a factory, remember that they can unionize just the same, and since there's a glut of idle facilities from the collapse of the auto industry it would make more sense to use them rather than build a new one.....and those factories are most likely in the heart of union town, so the bulk of people available to staff them are.... you guessed it...unions.

I hope I'm wrong, but it's hard to ignore the reality of what is most likely going to happen to the USD and the impact it will have on imports. The finishing touch is also going to be expensive gas again, not caused by a weak dollar, but definately amplified by it.

Maybe Fiat can pull of a miracle, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon, they're just positioning themselve to take advantage of a US rebound when it eventually comes. Until then, enjoy more of the same product, that you probably weren't buying in the first place.

The news and Obama thinks everybody was holding off on buying a Chrysler until this deal is done. A better economy will, but closing down hundreds of dealerships causing thousands of workers to lose their jobs doesn't help. Obama's just like Bush. Obama has his UAW and Banker buddies just as Bush had his oil buddies.
