Eek! I'd take a Honda Civic EX over one of these any day of the week.

Mr. D:

I had mentioned earlier in a previous post that I know a guy who works at my local Kia Dealership, and I will just re illiterate what he had told me a month ago...

"...These cars are just flying off of the lot".

Just from looking at the vehicles on the road I know that they must be selling quite a few because I am seeing them EVERYWHERE!

Why are they selling so well? For a moment, let's just forget the fact that Kia's quality and reliability is now up there with the best of the manufacturer's (thanks Hyundai), and assume that all vehicles are equal in its build.

I believe that the reason these vehicles are selling so well lies in the fact that:

(1) The versatility of the vehicle can not be denied (if you don't agree, you haven't driven one or used one).
(2) Small businesses are actually using them for advertising and some deliveries.
(3) Teenagers and College kids have taken a shine to them.
(4) Seniors are buying them in a similar vane as they are buying the Honda Element.
(5) They grow on you and are really not ugly at all. In fact I think it is a very appealing vehicle.
(6) Fuel economy is good and it has decent horsepower / torque.
(7) Customization options looks like its going to be unlimited.
(8) Kia's warranty is one of the best in the business and I know that at my Kia Dealership they also offer the Freedom Driving Club where you don't have to pay for any regular maintenance at all for as long as you own the vehicle.

I could go on, but what's the point? I've made my point.

My Two Cents

thetruth:

Mr. D, while many of your points may be true, how can you exclude the low cost from the list. If anything, given the current economic landscape, price may be the #1 reason why people would consider purchasing a certain car. Sure many options matter, but if things are fairly similar people with limited funds (the intended purchaser of these things) will probably go with the cheaper option. Alos, many of your points are not limited to this specific car, other makers have had similar products for many years but aren't selling in great numbers, so I'm not sure they're well supported as points. I'd also question your "flying off the lots" comment, I don't know if I've seen even one of these in the Fairfield CT / NYC area....but I may be confuse it with scions at a glance.

Let's be realistic....teenagers taking a shine to them....what reality are you living in where teenagers have so much money that they're buying new cars. College kids need cars for new jobs, if they have them, but most of the reports I've been reading indicate new grad jobs are less available and lower paying. This may cause them to buy a cheaper car, which could be this, but also may force them to just drive the same beater they had in college.

JeTTTo:

this car is so freaking NICCCEEEE! LOVE IT!!!!
compairing it to aztek is very dumb..... to me..!!!

KIA IS RELIABLE..!!!
but i dont like the engin... its pretty basic.. unfortunately... but for the average ppl... PERFECT CAR!

Mr. D:

thetruth, I have to agree with the comments that you made in response to my previous posting. I guess I can be blind to the majority of the country due to my demographic location and local economy. I based my opinions on my area and that was wrong.

I live in an area where oil is plentiful and there is plenty of non-essential cash around. The majority of the teenagers around here have part-time jobs related to the oilfield and are making anywhere from $15.00 - $30.00 an hour. Almost every high school kid as his / her own vehicle. In my town the average family has 3 cars in its driveway.

So, teenagers are buying them and they are spending big bucks in customization.

As a side not, the majority of these kids will not go to college, but rather complete a trade or apprenticeship related to the oil fields.

Again I apologize and should base my opinions on the average American as opposed to my own little blip on the map.
