Toyota has announced that the automaker will cut production this year by 28 percent to its lowest level in seven years.

Slow sales mean that Toyota will produce 6.68 million vehicles in 2009, down from 9.24 million in 2008.

"We expect the severe conditions to continue this year," said Toyota spokeswoman Ryoko Nishinohara.

Toyota also expects the fiscal year ending in March 2010 to be its worst year ever, forecasting a net loss of $5.7 billion (550 billion yen). In contrast in the fiscal year ending in March 2008, Toyota had a record profit of 1.72 trillion yen.

Good, less boring camry and ugly prius models on the road. Maybe people will open their eyes and see better choices for style and performance - doubtfull perhaps.

i can see by your comment that you are retarded....
i have always wondered why GM loving retards like yourself even post comments, you clearly dont know anything about anything...

gm0n3y:

I actually prefer Japanese cars, but lately the only interesting cars coming from there are Nissans. Honda and Toyota seem to have decided not to make fun cars anymore. What happened to the Supra, MR2, NSX? Even the RSX is better than any current Honda. Toyota's most interesting car is??? The Corolla sport version?

Mazda6 Guy:

@gm0n3y

There is another Japanese brand making fun cars... Mazda. While one can't argue that Nissan has the sport cars to boot, Mazda can claim excellent driving dynamics in pretty much all their cars, and certainly better looks than Honda and Toyota.

lutz:

omg, pontiac scores another win!

Just to respond to your absolutely stupid comment, I don't own a GM car. lol. Your such a tool.. So much for truth, now get back to high school...

@Mazda6 Guy

Yes, I agree, Mazda offers a better performance car than anything Toyota or Honda offers at this time.

LOL losing 5.7 billion dollars in one year for GM would be positive.

Avatar:

Funny SteelCity1981, because Toyota lost more money last quarter then GM did. They blew through a whooping 7.6 billion vs GM and 5.9 billion.

muscleoverrice:

but avatar, toyota cant do wrong. they are the best car company ever.

SteelCity1981:

@ Avatar

The diff is Toyota can afford to have a big losing quater, GM can't afford to even stay in their own HQ. lol.

Totenglocke:

Mazda has some of the best cars out there. It's a shame that so many people don't think of Mazda when they think of Japanese cars.......my guess is that they just have never driven one or ridden in one.

I drove a Mazda 3 s Sport the other day and holy crap, that's a great car. Definitely buying one in a couple months.

sparky:

@Totenglocke

Some of the Mazda's are nice (the 6 is), but stay away from the RX8 - I owned one and it was pure hell, google RX8 engine seal issues and you will be amazed of all the bad. (CU still rates it better than average thou - lol). I had three engines in 3 years, Mazda service replaced them free, but weeks to a month in the shop each visit. Out of 24 cars I have owned, it was the worst. If anything, wished the RX8 was their electric offering since it was fun to drive and mine was loaded with fun options..

so informative, thanks to tell us.
