The news that GM has killed Pontiac may make some of you want to rush out and buy a G8 or Solstice in the hope that it may one day become a collectors item, but you may want to rethink that.
According to General Manager Rob Huting of AutoTrader Classic, the current Pontiacs are unlikely to become significant to collectors. GM has already produced 12,000 units of the G8, which has only been on the market for a short time. Although it represents a good performance value, it is unlikely to become as collectible as say a Corvette. The same will likely go for the Solstice or any other car currently in the Pontiac lineup.

Doubt it.
Olds got killed a few years ago. Everyone scramble to get an alero.

I'll bet the G8 and Solstice do become more desirable. Maybe not full-on collector's items, but I'll bet their price does go up. Those are the only 2 really nice cars that Pontiac has made for awhile.
The Olds Alero didn't have that sexy appeal that a convertible or a really powerful V-8 has so it didn't really have anything that set it apart. Heck, it was just a re-badged Grand Am anyways.

I believe the old pontiacs will increase in value some, certainly will not go down in value any. But, really, only a few pontiacs made after the 70's are collectable anyway.
So, only the flagship models like G8 and Solstics, and any rag top.

Sure, they'll be collected at junkyards all over the country.

I think this article is wrong. In regards to the Pontiac Solstice Coupe, this will be a collector's item. They just started building it and seriously, how many can they build before production ends at the end of this year.
My fearless prediction. The Solstice coupe will be at Goodwood in 20 years.

@cobaltssman
Ya, and then recycled to China, melted down, made into unsafe cars with lots of lead paint, then sold to their masses for a hidden method of population control.. lol..
Miss the GTO days of pontiac. Miss the days of 442 olds too. Dam, i'm old..

They will be cherished like asbestos and lead paint.

What a wonderfully accurate insight.
They also failed to mention that here in Aus, where the car was designed, is currently one of the best selling vehicles around, and is in no danger of disappearing. Every man and his dog has one in some form or other.
I started off with a v6 version, had a v6 ute for work and currently drive a v8 luxury version.
If you guys miss the car that bad you can pick up a year old one here for fk all.

I have a Firebird Formula Convertible with a V-8 and 6 speed. I'd like to think that it will become collectible someday.
