VW Officially NOT Bringing the Scirocco to the US

vw_scirocco_official_new.jpg
Last week word leaked that VW had officially decided to not bring the Scirocco to the US, via a dealer communication, but no official word had been stated to the press..until now.

Tom Wegehaupt, Volkswagen' of America's public relations coordinator, officially told Autoblog that the VW has decided to not bring the Scirocco to the US due to fears of the model cannibalizing sales of the new GTI and the sad state of the auto market.

It looks like fans that were eagerly awaiting the return of the Scirocco in the US will have to move across the Atlantic if they ever want to own the new one.

Big deal, wasn't it just a repackaged GTI anyways?

Trooper Bri:

I'm starting to get confused by all these VW press releases.

They've got the Golf (and it's versions), plus the Polo (and it's versions) for the US market. Both of these cars look similar.
But they won't bring the Scirocco here because they're afraid it will eat into their clone sales?

Why not merge whatever advances were planned for the Polo back into the Golf and ditch the Polo, then bring the Scirocco to the states in multiple drivetrain options.

That bodystyle is awesome. It's nice to see someone manufacturing plenty of real estate in front of the front tires in a 2-door configuration. The wedge is dead!

To bad, I love blowing these VW's off the road....

Totenglocke:

Here's a better idea VW -- stop selling the GTI and give us the Sirrocco.

zippy:

And in other news, VW confirms it is no longer, not bringing select models to the usa.
While this reversal of not bringing cars not destined for these shores, VW remains committed to providing a wide array of cars, not destined for the USA so these shipments can then be cancelled.

Dan:

That thing is a toilet. It should be flushed!

Kempai Tai:

Have to admit, I like the look of the Scirocco better than the GTI/Golf/whatever they're calling it now. No idea whether performance is worth a crap, but looks-wise I'd rather have this one.

Just sayin'.

the title should read " VW officially SUCKS"

I hear VW is giving a free one way ticket as a stimulas package offer to sell these...

gm0n3y:

Looks good, but it would have just been another VW broken down on the side of the road anyways.

Bob:

You guys are nuts, VW is a super fun roller coaster of yes - no - maybe -we'll keep you guessing! You forum trolls can chew my left rear tire. My GTI has been a great car from day 1. I had it over 10 years now and it's still going strong while some friends are on their 3rd cars now.

I'm going to buy a GTI or a Scirocco so maybe they give me the Scirocco just because.

Scirocco - fun car - no hauling stuff
GTI -fun car - hauling stuff
GTI 4dr - fun car - hauling kids and their stuff.

I have no kids or stuff! I want a Scirocco!

cheers,
Bob

Chris:

I dont understand how these cars will cannabalize sales in the US, but not in Europe?

Do people in Europe by two cars when they go to the dealership? Or am I to really believe that in Europe, and Europe ONLY, people would NEVER EVER buy a GTI, but they would absolutely buy this?

VW is retarded. Its $15k more than the GTI, no body in the market for a $25K hot hatch is going to all of a sudden say...oh well eff this...i'll buy the other one for 15 grand more.

If anything, they cant bring it to the US because NOBODY will pay $40k for this car.

zippy:

In euro land, small cars are a normal way of life.
There is no SUV or minvan for the family and a small commuter car or a small hot hatch for fun driving.
They drive almost exclusively small cars.
The small cars over there have a higher level of refinement than here and making those models affordable so they will sell in the US is a challenge for them. By comparison, cars in the US sell for much less.
This is what my German friend tells me.
