Spy Shots: 2011 Hyundai Sonata Gets More Coupe-Like Styling

2011_hyundai_sonata_spy_4.jpg
Over the weekend some of the best spy photos to date of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata surfaced and now today we have our first shot of the interior.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is going to feature a coupe-like roofline and more curvaceous styling than the current generation. The interior has a dual cockpit design that is similar to the Genesis Coupe. Obviously this photo of the interior is of a pre-production model. The production Sonata will have higher quality materials.

Although the new Sonata will officially be a 2011 model, you can expect an unveiling soon.

First again!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Toyota Celica from the late 80's.

Or maybe more like a Toyota Paseo especially in the front fascia.

thetruth:

bummer, someone already stole the radio, must be parked in New Jersey somewhere.

"the production Sonata will have higher quality materials" Obviously the author has never been in a Sonata, another sore of the rental industy.

gm0n3y:

While this may not be the prettiest car ever, its definitely a step up from the current version.

rawanduntamed:

Sort of looks like an upscale Saturn Ion coupe...

SEALBoy:

I think it's way too early to make judgement calls about the front/back of the car with the pics here.

Interior looks like a minor-ish revision of the current interior, which is not a bad thing. Steering wheel has more leather and more of an upscale look.

Side profile looks pretty good. I wonder if they are sacrificing any trunk space (I hope not). Kind of Mazda 6-like.

Trooper Bri:

Agreed with SEALBoy, the front and back are covered and disguised pretty good.

But from what is visible it's apparent that Hyundai isn't completely done borrowing styling cues from the competition. Not surprising though, especially for the Sonata.
OTOH, the quality and reviews keep getting better and better for Hyundai. Between that and a lower price point, it will sell.

Gary:

Hopefully they can throw a Hybrid version out too, its the only thing the Sonata is lacking. If they give it a touch of Genesis styling and keep the price low, Honda and Toyota will have some serious competition on their hands.

Looks like Toyota was right when they said they were more worried about Hyundai than Honda.

Perhaps the "yeah but it's still a Hyundai" moniker will start to fade.

Fred "theflo" Oliver:

I don't think quality of interior will ever be Hyundai forte ( no pun intended on the car of that name). I am disgusted in the interior plastics and cloth. Very cheap, feels like all the materials are from recycled plastic bottles.

At the NYC Car Show this month I saw nothing to brag about with the Genesis it is more of a Camry, Honda Competitor than a Mercedes or Lincoln Killer.

This Sonata lacks charcter and the interior not even up to YARIS standards.

vincent:

For the exterior, side view must take from the new Mazda 6 and the rear from Acura TSX.

gm0n3y:

At the price point the Genesis is in, it certainly isn't trying to compete with Mercs and Lincolns. Maybe the G37 though.

NQik:

@ thetruth: the current sonata has great interior materials compared to the altima, up to par with the accord and better overall materials than the camry.

I like how this car looks! these are just prototype production models and I am sure that when the new one comes out, hopefully that it looks like a junior Genesis sedan. It would be nice if Hyundai made a Sonata coupe to compete with the altima and accord coupe. Hyundai has improved their products and they just need to improve on their handling and they have a great formula! Knowing Hyundai, this will surpass the current generation Sonata.
