According to Motor Trend, GM has approved the Cadillac Converj Concept for production. The extended-range electric coupe is based on the same architecture that powers the Chevy Volt.
GM execs want the car on the market by 2011 as a 2012 model. In addition a source claims that GM is also working on a crossover that will use the same technology.
A GM spokesperson claims that the Converj has still not been given the green light, but sources that have talked to Motor Trend have given many details that provide more proof that it is likely to be approved.
Of course all of this could change if GM's finances don't improve.

I think GM should quit listing new *concept* cars etc. and either restructure the company or call it a day. They just released new SUV's! Are they not getting the message??

And once again those new 'SUVs' get the same gas mileage as an Accord 4 cylinder for 4 cylinder. Honda apparently can't get more mileage out of a same size, similarly powered 4 cylinder with 400-500 less lbs to work with? I thought Honda was the fuel economy giant.

I bet Honda can do the same, but there must be reasons why they not doing it. Its marketing strategy and dun get me wrong, sometimes the marketing people and the top management group are more concern over other "features" but not efficiency, The next release is always the greatest?

It's a concept car, so it will change. Most concepts I see are ugly, especially asian designs. Some actually make it out the door; Nissan cube anyone?
I still would like to see an all electric car under $20k that is enjoyable to look at as well as drive. The Volt and this car will be 10k's more.

I don't think it's bad looking at all. It's also going to be electric for the greenies.
@SkullTrail:
Also this car has been in the works for some time so I'm not sure how this interferes with restructuring. A part of this restructuring will include building better and more desirable cars. So I think they get it to that point.

GM need to make high volume, well built, economical and attractive mass market vehicles. Something like this will struggle to break even.
They are the world's slowest learners.

Sure hope they build it, and it lives up to the hype. I would buy one right now, no matter what it cost. And that is coming from someone who hates American brand autos. Cool is cool, regardless.

I like it. I don't see this car as being so different from Cadillac's current line up that they'd have to change many things.
