Audi insiders have confirmed that the automaker is working on a convertible version of the R8 supercar that will be released in 2011.

The details are scarce, but the R8 convertible is expected to have a full length convertible roof that will likely be a made of fabric since the R8's mid-engine layout leaves no room for a retractable hardtop. Audi also has a preference for soft tops.

There has been no confirmation if the R8 convertible will be powered by the R8's V8 or V10 engines.

D!:

Convertible R8 on South Beach = WIN
Convertible R8 on the track = FAIL

There are only a few cars who's convertible iteration handle even similar to the non-convertible one. Hopefully, the R8 convertible can add it's name to the list.

I was surprised that they didn't come out with one earlier.

bob :

kool car but how fast? right now, audi's r8 is slower than nissan's gtr by almost 65 hp, needs at least a 500 hp engine

sparky:

Sill nice looking sweet convertible car. I'd own it regardless if it is 0.2 seconds slower..

My vote.. (if anyone cares lol)
Convertible R8 on South Beach = WIN+
Convertible R8 on the track = WIN-
