Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Takes a Break for 2009

Slow sales of 2008 models and remaining inventory have forced some automakers to not release certain models for the 2009 model year.

Last week it was announced that GM was not going to release a 09' Saturn Astra due to high inventory levels and now Mitsubishi is going to do the same thing with its Lancer Evolution.

According to Mitsubishi spokeswomen Christine Jew, there were no changes planned for the 2009 model year and there are enough 2008 units available to last until the 2010 model is released later this year.

Although there is still a significant number of 2008 Lancer Evos available sales were up 50.9% in 2008.

There are a few minor changes in store for the 2010 Lancer Evolution.

Yikes, skip an entire year's worth of sales? That doesn't sound very promising to Mitsubishi. Time to dump the Lancer entirely.

JFox:

Is it that hard to make small minor changes to the 2009 version? =.=

the car nice front... needs a better ass that doesnt look so uptight

vtfo0lio:

I like the Lancer line, especially the Evolution. Its a great car, my younger brother has a seriously fast Evolution 9. Not many cars can post over 1g of lateral grip AND cost under 40k.

Joan of Arc:

That would be strange... 2008 straight to 2010. Ah well. It is a seriously fun car, that Evolution. Hopefully it doesn't hit the chopping blocks. I'm thinking of it as my next car, whenever the MINI croaks. Evo XI?

Eddie:

does anyone else find it interesting that the Evo's sales went UP 50% while the previous post said that Toyota, GM, etc's sales went DOWN 30+ %?
Maybe the skipped 2009MY will bring prices down? *maniacal laugh*

Avatar:

It actually makes a little sense. 2007 Evo sales where down since the new model was only a year out and its more of an enthusiasts car. This means that most people who buy these know when the new models/revisions are coming out and generally wait for them if it is only a year away. So 2007 Evo sales down, new model Evo in 2008 caught all the people waiting for it.

Noya:

I predict Mitsubishi will pull out of the US market this year. Even before the whole "mini-depression" came along, Mitsu was barely hanging on.

The Evo is overpriced, the Ralliart is too slow in a crowded field and no one buys Galants.

bullfrog:

This car screams babe magnet. Now only if those babes could be found somewhere other than a taco bell parking lot on Friday night.

Hopefully it stays in the states, always nice to have a few enthusiast cars floating around.

Bradford:

Mitsu aint leaving this yr (poor Isuzu), but it might not be much longer.

The Raider is already getting the axe which is an 'ehh'. The Dodge Dakota is more attractive with a better warranty.

Honestly, I wouldn't say Mitsubishi is a bad motor company, but their kind of the forgotten one that nobody really cares about. A Galant? Naaa...

Bradford:

my bad for floating off topic.....

The EVO is a car that appeals to only a few, so I really don't think a little 'brake' is going to hurt that bad. Maybe while on this 'brake' a couple discounts could be tossed in the buyers direction to at least keeps sells happening.

CrazyDriver:

Mitsubishi 2009GT and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution itself own all GM and Ford garbage cans together expect for Corvette and Shelby.

Bradford:

Mitsubishi 2009GT and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution itself own all GM and Ford garbage cans together expect for Corvette and Shelby hu?

[laugh out loud]

Really!?! An Evo-lution can beat a Ford Focus or a Chevy Cobalt [non SS] or a Chevy Aveo!?? I SoooOOO didn't know that!

The Evo was built as a performance car, the Aveo, Focus, Cobalt, etc. were all built for every day usage. No crap an Evo can beat them.

But then again, how bout I get a Cobalt SS that costs $24,000 brand new [according to chevy.com] instead of a Evo that costs $38,000 brand new [according to mitsubishicars.com], do $14,000 worth of crap to the SS then put em side by side. If the Stock Evo can't beat the Stock SS with that pricetag, f*ck an Evo.

LT:

I knew that EU has EVO X with automatic DSG kind of transmission, why all U.S version only comes with MT?
