SteelCity1981:

Looks better then the current Camry's, still not enough to compete against the 2010 Ford Fusion.

Totenglocke:

Wow......a Toyota with style? I haven't seen that in a decade or more......

Ravicai:

@ SteelCity1981:

Let's see you back that statement up with some facts. I'll admit, the Fusion Hybrid is definitely as good, if not better, then the Camry. However, the I4 and V6 versions don't have anything over their Camry counterparts as far as power, MPG, and build quality goes. The V6 has 47 more HP, and yet manages to get better MPG. The only real neat extra with the Fusion is the optional AWD. But to be honest, if I'm going to spend that much money on a underpowered V6, I'd rather opt for a WRX.

SteelCity1981:

@ Ravicai

The Fusions doesn't have anything over Camry with MPG and build quality? So the 2010 Fusion hybrid that surpasses the Camry hybrid in MPG doesn't ring a bell? Wow the 2010 Camry V6 3.5 liter has a whopping 6 more HP over the 2010 Fusions 3.5L V6. Well the following editors sure disagree with you about Ford Fusion's quality.

Ford's midsize competitor blends attractive looks, an excellent chassis, and a lot of value." -- Motor Trend

"To summarize, the Fusion is an impressively strong product, meeting expectations in nearly every category and impressing on handling thanks to the all-wheel-drive option. In fact, it's probably the best sedan the company has ever offered in North America. But is it better than a Camry or Accord? That's hard to say." -- Business Week

"It looks great from the outside, good on the inside, and its performance is on par with the competition. ... But aside from its looks, the Fusion offers no standout qualities that will bring Camry and Accord drivers into Ford showrooms." -- Car and Driver

"An excellent choice among midsize sedans and should not be overlooked. It offers a comfortable ride, purposeful looks, capable handling and good value." -- New Car Test Drive

"It has a well-rounded adequacy about it, a wholesome middle-ness, a pleasant sense of expectations met." -- Los Angeles Times

Excels at nothing, lacks nothing -- it will never be a star player, but it'll start every game. Nicely done." -- Orlando Sentinel

"I could find no major flaws in my Fusion tester even after nine days behind the wheel." -- Newsday

will:

SteelCity1981, are you kidding me? Fusion does not even have a chance to compete with camry, yaris maybe

SteelCity1981:

@ Will

What are you smoking? Yaris LOL. The Yaris isn't even close to the same class as the Fusions, the Fiesta is and the new Fiesta will blow it out of the water. The Fusion competes with the Camry.

KoenigseggCCX:

My guess is that SteelCity1981 is from Europe somewhere (as I am). For some reason Ford uses the same model name for two totally different cars. In Europe, the Fusion is a small car. Similar to the old Fiest, but then slightly higher for easier entry and exit for the driver and passenger.

The US version of the Fusion however is a much larger, more luxurious car. They have nothing in common whatsoever. And yes, the European Fusion would come closer to a Yaris than a Camry ;)

KoenigseggCCX:

Errr.. I mean that Will is probably from Europe, not SteelCity1981. My apologies ;)

zippy:

indeed

SteelCity1981:

Might I add those quots above from diff car mag editors were from the 06-09 Fusions and not the 2010 Fusion. In terms of quality the Fusion ranks right up their with the Camry and maybe even more so now for the 2010 Fusions then the last gens. I'm not saying the the Camry isn't bad at all it's a pretty good car all around but the 2010 Fusion just looks flat out better then the 2010 Camry.

COBRA32:

All those comments from those reviews are for the old model not the 2010 Fusion which beat the Camry in the latest Car and Driver and Motor Trend. Car and Driver said this about the 2010 Fusion, Ford hit one over the fense and into the ionosphere with the new Fusion. Another quote Ford pulled off a game changer with this 2010 model.

Andy:

Hyundai Sonata (base)
2.4L @ 175hp
Mileage 22/32
With Ton of safety features
Starting 19K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like toyota has some catch up to do.
This year is gonna be make or break for every major automaker.

sparky:

What is really important, is that we have two good car's to choose from. Everyone wins, choose who you wish to support.

Joan of Arc:

You're comparing a brand new generation Fusion to an old generation Camry. Who knows what the next Camry will be like in a couple years? I just can't compare an old competitor with a new model competitor. Of course it will probably be better (the Fusion).

This is just a facelifted Camry... not a brand new generation.

SteelCity1981:

@ Joan of Arc

Keep in mind when they were comparing the current 06-09 Fusion they were comparing it to the newer 07- Camry at the time as well.

RX-7 Guy:

The Malibu has this thing completely out classed inside and out build quality included. Toyota is riding on its reputation.

anon:

i'll keep my VW gti. i can't believe there is this much argument over a camry and fusion.

Trooper Bri:

"i can't believe there is this much argument over a camry and fusion."

C,mon anon. Didn't you ever toss a few french fries out the window just to watch the seagulls fight over them? www.thefrenchfryreport.com has a certain ring to it.

SteelCity1981:

Sorry but the Malibu isn't a top notch car, maybe for Chevy, but has anyone ever sat in the backseat of a Malibu? It feels like a park bench. Not to mention the two tone dashboard layout doesn't appeal to many people.

Noya:

RX-7 Guy:

"The Malibu has this thing completely out classed inside and out build quality included. Toyota is riding on its reputation."

Yes, and Toyota's reputation is built on producing quality cars since it's introduction here in the states. That's a reputation that's well deserved.

On the other hand, the Shrinking 3 have mostly produced garbage since the 1970's and their cars also have a reputation that is well deserved.

The question is, how long will it take for that reputation to be changed? They're going to have to produce cars of equal or better quality for a good ten years IMO. When you can buy a 7-8 year old domestic that's out of warranty coverage and it's held up as well as a Toyota or Honda, that's when you know it's a quality product. The Shrinking 3 are just lucky there's so many pro-Americans in the "red states" that will never buy anything "foreign."

zippy:

You are almost spot on Noya.
I am one of those Red State people that only drive Honda and Toyota. 8P

Sandman:

looks more and more like a fish every year. The Malibu does outclass it and the Taurus is just in another league.

Icester:

Sorry to disappoint anyone, but I buy based on past performance (for reliability). The Big 3 still haven't build a proven track record yet (to me).

I'll grant you that its entirely possible that the 2010 Big 3 cars do exceed Honda/Toyota in build quality. However, without several years in-the-field, I can only base my decision on their track records.

It is the chicken-and-egg problem, but I _know_ that if I buy a Honda/Toyota I will not get a dud.

Bradford:

The new Malibu's interior is terrible to me. Hard plastic everywhere. VERY cheap, BUT the new Malibu's exterior looks very good. A great 1up on their previous generation.

This new Camry's front end is fugly! The front bumper looks like it was one of those off market front bumpers that teens put on the front of their 10 year old cars.

Im digging the lights and grill tho... but that bumper. Ew.

I wish the wheels didn't appear as if they were spinning. Im curious to see if thats a new wheel design...
