Wow, that is a great price. This could be the most popular sports coupe in a long time.

Looking around at prices, its around the same as the Civic SI and $2k cheaper than a Cobalt SS. That's pretty sweet value; I'd take the Genesis coupe over either of those vehicles.

Hell no !!
22K is the sweetest price, I cudnt imagine after such a hype of genesis sedan they wud actually lower price for coupe. I thought the opposite.......seems like Hyundai doesn't wanna loose this moment to consolidate their place big time. Its about time.

An LS Camaro with a 300hp v6 with either a 6 speed stick or auto starts at 23k and gets 26 mpg highway apparently. For a grand more then the turbo 4 Genesis and 2 less then the v6, I think Hyundai have more competition then they would like. The SS costs 31k. The top Genesis Coupe is suppose to cost around that. 300hp or 400hp, choices choices.

I like the new Camaro, but the safe bet is on Hyundai's build quality IMHO.

WOW, only $22,000. The only way I could get a Challenger SRT8 at around that price is if I buy It as a Kit.
Yet agen, I actualy prefer it that way since I can easily add and remove what I wish. (customize)

Such bang for your hard earned buck is rare these days...and what a bang it is! 30 MPG, 210hp, 223 ft-lb of torque at 2000 RPMs in a RWD coupe with a LSD for under 30K. Hyundai seems to have a real winner on their hands and Honda seems to have a real problem now.
Who'd by a Civic Si when for around the same price you could get more power, more torque, and RWD...anyone?
That's what I thought. =)

Is it just me, or does a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe at $22,000 undermine Hyundai's sales pitch of the Genesis sedan as a S-class like luxury car at mid car prices? I love the Sedan Genesis, but making a 2 door version, especially a cheap one, seems to take away its appeal, of exclusivity.
Imagine you are middle aged person and paid 40k for the sedan, and now they are selling a Tiburon like car with its name to a bunch of the Fast and Furious types. At least Infiniti does not sell the G37 coupe on the cheap. These things may sell like hotcakes, if the economy was normal, so that is good for Hyundai, one of the few car companies not tanking.

I'm sure the Camaro LS with the 300hp V6 weighs a ton... or is that the Challenger? I recall them both being just enormous cars...
You can't beat the prices for this. The interior is nowhere near as nice as the Sedans, though. They really should have changed the model name. It is a mistake, IMHO.
This is going to be an all-around fun car. I'll test drive them, but I won't be in the market for a new car until 2012 or so... too many new things are coming out!

Nice exterior, great price and MPG and decent power. Rise of the Korean cars now? Domestic cars will be in deep trouble... challenger is a hella ugly car...new camaro is ok.

Actually Joan, you would be wrong. The v6 Camaro is suppose to be around 3700 lbs, the v8 around 3800 lbs, same as what my GTO weighs. The Genesis Coupe turbo 4 is 3400 lbs and the v6 3500 lbs. Quick run down:
Genesis Coupe
Turbo 4: 16.19 lbs/hp
v6: 11.67 lbs/hp
Camaro
v6: 12.33 lbs/hp
v8: 9.00 lbs/hp
G8 GT
11.08 lbs/hp
Cobalt SS
11.54 lbs/hp
Solstice GXP
11.54 lbs/hp
2010 Mustang GT
11.11 lbs/hp
Challenger
SE: 15.2 lbs/hp
R/T: 10.67 lbs/hp
Civc SI
Coupe: 13.8 lbs/hp
Sedan: 15.22 lbs/hp
Mazdaspeed 3
12.18 lbs/hp
WRX
12.08 lbs/hp
So a Civic SI is faster then the turbo Genesis Coupe and cheaper too. Most of us can agree that the SI in underpowered in this segment, but now is no longer the slowest thanks to the new Genesis Coupe. Noya can rejoice now. Heck, even the portly Challenger will most likely be quicker then it (in a straight line anyway). The v6 matches the competition or does worse then.

Each time I see this I like it more and more. Attractive exterior. Interior? Kinda bland. Bang for buck? Seems good, particularly vs other RWD competitors.
But that's just numbers at this point. It is in the range where, were I shopping for a mid $20's sport oriented coupe, I'd give it a serious look.

$22K?!?!?!? The first press releases were saying $19.5K for the base Turbo 4 and $23K for the V6. At those prices it looks like I'll be picking up a used G35 or G37. Too bad Hyundai missed the boat on pricing. The V6 Camaro, if it ever gets released, will come in thousands (~$6K) cheaper than the V6 Genesis, and Hyundai said they were producing the cheapest 300+HP RWD coupe in the world. Looks like they lied.
This really sucks, I was hoping to get a new Genesis over a used G35 but I can't justify the price difference. A used G35 with ~30K miles will run the same price if not less than a V6 Genesis... Boo Hyundai, very boo.

mmmm yea 87 mustang GT, gotta love 225hp from 5.0L of displacement. I'm sure you'll totally pwn that 2.0L turbo car, then again I'd rather drive the genesis coupe than a fox body because handling matters too. Then there's the 3.8L V6 with 308hp, care to compare your 5.0L V8 to that model?
/fail

Hmmm, a 1987 Mustang GT weighs around 3100 lbs. So more power and less weight then a car that is going to be 23 model years newer then it (turbo Genesis Coupe that is). Yup, sparky clearly failed with that comparison /sarcasm. Oh, and the 5.0L isn't really 5.0L, its 4.9L in actuality. rflynn88 epic fail.

The V6 Camaro is going to be a turd. The car is just too damn heavy.
I guess it goes to show how much crap our government has crammed down our throats due to safety crap that a small sporty car has to weigh 3500 pounds, and something the size of the Camaro weighs almost 4000 pounds.
And you guys are comparing a 20+ year old Mustang to a brand new car? You fail for even making the comparison. It's just stupid.

Most of the time, I expect a coupe version of a sedan to share a great deal of the interior components and quality, engine and performance. Certainly a common look and feel. If it is a different animal, then do not call it the same model name since this is false advertising - my hopes were high this would rival the sedan's quality.
There own quote:
"Genesis sedan set a new benchmark for the premium sedan segment and we think Genesis Coupe will do the same in the sport coupe arena,”
For this coupe, that is not the case. Compairing the Coupe with the Sedan shows a huge quality hit, a completely different dash, and very cheap look and feel - compared to the Sedan that is. This is dissapointing, since I would want a coupe version of the car to be at least at nice as the sedan version especially since it is implied as a 'premium' coupe along with the 'premium' sedan.
It is a cheaply appointed and built coupe riding on the coattails of a name given to a nice sedan. Blah.
And yes, my 2006 Mustang GT contertable coupe eats this for lunch.

The 2.0L R-Spec at $23,750 + an aftermarket turbo and supporting mods should be a ripper. A modern day "Silvia" if you will.
But any of these will be great values in the "nearly new" used car market. I predict plenty of old gray haired men picking up manual V6 and turbo 4 models and then deciding they don't like shifting all that much anymore = creampuff.

To me it looks like a chick car or a car for dorky guys more or less the same as the Tiburon. The concept with the body kit was far more impressive this is just childish and boring.
The new Camaro V6 should do 0-60 in 6.1 seconds and ¼ in 14.4, not a screamer but no turd. It is using the same 3.6L from the G8. If it's built to the same standards as the late GTO or Malibu it will certainly be competitive in quality as well. This new Hyundai V6 should have a slight edge in performance and decent advantage in handling. This is comparing a base model with highest performance model and I think it comes down to a matter of taste. Personally I think the base Camaro is going to have far more mass appeal. The one ace that is does have going for it is their customer loyalty program. Lose your job and you can return it to the dealership without too much hassle. In these times that’s something to think about.
@Noya
Just do that and I bet the first SS Camaro you pull up to will blow your doors off in stock trim warrantee still intact.

It's clear the 2.0R spec is gonna be a tuners baby. That 2.0 will probably get to 280hp with a chip and bolt ons and with an LSD, brembos, and sport suspension it won't take much to make it a great track/autox car.

Good to see a low displacement turbo RWD on the market. Keep the curb weight under 3200 lbs and this could be a fun ride. Looks nice too. I've never ban a fan of Hyundai but I must admit, i'd like to test drive one of these asap.

Add 200-300 pounds to that weight and that's the Genesis. If they could have kept pricing under $20K for the turbo 4 it's be a hit, but at $22k it's too pricey.

I'll admit the Cobalt SS is probably the best bang for the buck in terms of both straight line performance and in the turns, but there is still something much more exciting about a rwd car.
Not to mention I would prefer the Genesis as a daily driver as well. I think overall the Genesis is a better value, especially with the 10 year warranty.

It's a great effort, but like JB pointed out, the "safety crap" has pushed the weight of the cars beyond belief.
This is not a bad coupe for a budget set on not wanting to buy used. I can see both sides of the coin, though; just playing devil's advocate. I purchased a used Infiniti several years ago myself.

@Kawi:
That's the boat I'm in now actually, a new Genesis or a used G35/37. However if Obama passes the "stimulus" bill I may lean towards the Genesis to get the tax credit for a new car purchase... Tough call since I'm pretty sure the Genesis will be an absolute steal in the used cars lots next year. Even with top notch quality Hyundai's resale seems to be pretty low.
I still think Hyundai over priced the Genesis by about $2k-$3k.
