The 2010 Chevy Camaro finally enters production this March, but GM has yet to officially unveil the convertible version. We've seen countless photos of the new Camaro, but here are two more of the convertible testing in Australia.

According to Bob Lutz, GM has reportedly pushed back the release date of the Camaro Convertible until sometime in 2011.

SteelCity1981:

Is that a trailer hitch in the back?

Dave K:

I've seen pics of test mules pulling small trailers that hold instrumentation... I suspect that's what it's for in this case.

If the new camaro is anything like the old one... you CAN put a trailer hitch on them, but the weight limit is very low. I know folks who pull trailers with their track tires and gear for track days. I wouldn't be cause F-Body's are cosmetically challenged enough as it is (I own one and love it as a summer 'waste rubber' car), or at best a car that people either love or hate.

The new one is not growing on me... but then again I fail to see the charm of the retro trend. If you want a 69 camaro... go buy one, it's a heck of a lot better looking than this mix of old and new.

Personally... I wouldn't add one because F-Body's are cosmetically challenged enough as it is (I own one and love it as a summer 'waste rubber' car), or at best a car that people either love or hate.

WS:

I've seen so many pics of the Camaro now, it already seems like a 5-year old design that needs refreshing...and it's not even for sale yet.

Sandman:

the convertible looks horrible. needs to be postponed indefinitely.

they must require turn signals to be amber or something down under, but it look ridiculous.

Sandman:

they seriously need to consider a folding hard top. its the only way to make the convertible appealing.

muscleoverrice:

The wait is too long for one of these suckers! 420 hp 6 speed man, IRS, killer looks, Im dying for one.

muscleoverrice:

and the convertible is going to sell fine, there is always a market for those, gay men, girls, old bald guys! lol

RX-7 Guy:

I started my love affair with cars when my mother in her wilder days owned 70' Charger with a modified 440. My first car was a 70' Nova and it’s first upgrade was a 454.

However the retro thing is cool in its own right. They're better in almost every way. The performance gap is huge even in a straight line not to mention that they’re perfectly stable well into the triple digits. Also the Camaro will be like the Mustang most buyers aren’t going to be in their 40’s. The average age will be 25-35 year olds of both sexes.

I personally have no urge to work on my car on the weekends. I know how too but I would rather be doing something else with my time. That’s something most muscle car owners love. Me I just want to put gas in the tank and play.

If I bought one I think I would go for the drop top but apparently I’ll have to wait until my hair starts to thin becuase the gay thing isn't going to work for me.

sparky:

@RX-7,

"I personally have no urge to work on my car on the weekends"

and you own a RX-7? Sorry, couldn't resist! RX-7 is fun.

I don't think the repair's of moderns vehicles, like this Camaro, will be problematic. But many like to built up their retro vehicles, and when you outperform the original design, you invite trouble.

The Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, etc have some good margin built in for gear heads to have some fun. Plus many aftermarket performance parts to tinker with. Get serious, then you add serious aftermarket kits.

A GT-R is a prime example of the opposite effect; highly tuned performance, but no margin as well documented about their transmissions.

With over 400 ponies, IRS, retro looks and the top down, I don't think this car is limited to balding 50yo gay men. In fact, I would place a bet that if you drove up with one of these beasts the chicks would check it out compared to the macho guy driving the mini cooper. lol. Not to rag on the mini thou.. And not to insult women by calling them chicks.

Besides, we all know that gay men drive BMW and Jeep Wranglers convertables and gay women drive subaru's.

Lmao sparky. I can attest to that around my area for sure, lol.

jared maynard:

gm quit making all your cars look like corvettes

RX-7 Guy:

I really don’t see the Corvette styling cues, I do see a lot 69 Camaro cues. The rear-ends bare some similarities but that about it. When the tops are down they have similar profiles but I don't see it as four seat vette.

@sparky:
I think you would be very surprised I never had many problems with my RX-7 and certainly not when it was stock. Through the modding process I broke a lot of the stock stuff though. It hasn't had an unscheduled repair in a year and about 10k miles. How many other 15 year old heavily modded cars can make that stake claim?

RX-7's have a bad reputation and based on many firsthand accounts it's deserved. If you have a good rotary technician you should be fine. The problem is there are very few of them.
