Ford officially unveiled the all-new 2010 Taurus at the Detroit Auto Show this week and now we have a new clue that a "performance" version is next to be unveiled.
Ford launched a brand new Taurus website. On the gallery page there is a small amount of text that says "Coming February 2009...Performance Series." Could this be a more powerful version of the Taurus with the new EcoBoost V6? It remains to be seen, but since the Chicago Auto Show is next month, we expect to see something there.

The interior looks decent. Overall a little bland but what can you expect in this segment. Thumbs up for Ford!

Nobody has mentioned that it has lines very similar to the Accord when you look at the sides. though I have to say this is prettier in photos makes me wonder how it will look in person.
Kudos, for bringing back the SHO!
Oversized shift lever.

Ford seems to be hitting on all cylinders lately, hopefully they can keep it up.

I'd doubt it'd be awd and manual with 350+ hp....
Seems like a strong combination from a company that doesn't have a long term experience with awd setups...
Subaru yes, Ford no...

Ah, SteelCity, I don't think so.
The "set match" phrase goes to the companies that can develop a long history of good cars, not one every 20 years.
I like the work Ford is doing, but they need to show it over time.

Still not a big fan of the "chunky" look with the really high beltline and gun port windows. Give it a lower beltline with a more athletic appearance, and I'm in.

@WS
Yeah, you won't see that make a come back, probably ever.
Think about it. The reason the beltline, as you put it, has been raised is for crash worthiness. More glass and less steel makes for a weaker door panel.
Yeah, I'm all for having a window that's low enough to rest my arm on comfortably, not having it jacked up to my ear...
Not to mention how it impacts visibility.

"Oversized shift lever."
That's a complaint I've had about every Ford (and many GM cars) for years. Sorry, but I want a shift knob that fits in my hand, not something the size of Andre the Giant's kneecap. Otherwise this car looks pretty good.

Sorry folks, but I just have to say this: "Its SHO time!!!"

Man you must have some tiny hands.

@426Hemi
The sized shift knob you find on Ford's (or most any American car) is not a comfortable size to actually GRIP the shifter (on manuals that is) and it just looks retarded. Ever wonder why every other car maker in the world uses a smaller shift knob?

not bad looking car but i have a question. I thought ford was killing of the taurus and replacing it with the fusion with the whole new corporate 3 bar grill, and i think the new fusion looks pretty good dont they also use the fusion in nascar?. it just amazes me that they complain about having no money. but they waste $$$$$ on developing just more cars when they should be looking on refining current models making them more efficient,faster,strong,better.

Funny, I can grip onto those "oversied" shift knobs just fine. Are you shure you just don't have tiny hands?

Its an automatic. Who gives a poo about the shift lever.
If they make a manual it always smaller than the auto shifter.

Most people I've met who owned an SHO loved the thing. So SHO has a lot of appeal. But the text says 'performance series.' SHO? maybe, maybe not.
To me the thing that really counts is the performance produced by real, delivered cars. Too many times US manufacturers have tried to pass off 'sporty' stickers and fancy wheels as 'performance.' I can't get excited by speculation.
So, this hinted 'performance series' Taurus is vaporware to me at this point. The most I can glean from the pics above is, maybe, dual exhaust tips. Big whoop.

Of course Ford will unveal the SHO! Just saw spy picsw/out camouflage, on Autoblog... Gosh, why is Torque Report always so late with the Automotive News? We call it "News" for a reason, don't we?

LOL @ at the call for a manual tranny Taurus, cuz we all know manual tranny's dominate the Taurus/Accord/Camry/Malibu/Sonata/etc/etc segment.

Manual makes sense for an SHO Taurus. But the bread'n'butter Taurus suits an automatic.
Different demographics.
