Pickuptruck.com is reporting that GM has quietly decided to kill plans for the 2010 Pontiac G8 ST.
GM unveiled the Pontiac G8 ST last year at the New York Auto show. The unibody pickup version of the G8 sedan was expected to be V8 powered, feature a 74-inch cargo bed and be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds. The vehicle immediately recalled previous vehicles like the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero.
Last month, Susan Docherty, vice president of Buick-Pontiac-GMC stated that GM was going to pare down the number of Pontiac vehicles and that the G8 ST was under review to see if it made sense.
The G8 ST was expected to be launched as a 2010 model with prices starting in the low $30,000's. It was also rumored that GM was going to introduce a V6 version of the vehicle with the same direct-injection V6 as the upcoming Camaro.
Should we be sad?

It took them this long to figure out it wouldn't sell?

Dammit...there goes the only vehicle I was looking forward to consider buying. It would have sold here, maybe not in huge numbers, but that is just too classy not to sell..and yes I am using classy in the redneck trailer park sort of way.
I personally like it, and was thinking of buying one...now I guess I will keep my money and continue using the 2002 WS6 TA as my daily ride.

It's too bad they couldn't bring back something that resembles the El Camino. Well, if they can't bring that to the dealers lot than Chevy needs to revive the El Camino.

would have been an interesting purchase decision over the old ranger and all the other possible small trucks.

Rednecks can't afford $30,000 cars except UAW workers.

You couldn't say better...
Maybe GM's best decision in years ... a late one though ... better a late one than having Pontiac Aztec's to give out!

@Sarah:
With a passion huh? Maybe if you ask GM nicely enough they can give you a prototype of this very confused car and the two of you can lead very fulfilling lives in the no spin zone, at least until you actually spin out because the car has 400 ft-lbs of torque and no weight on the rear wheels.
Please, I wonder how many of our tax dollars were spent bringing this thing to life and then mulling over for 2 years whether or not to continue development. The senate should seriously pre screen every car that this company proposes and if it resembles anything but a normal car they should veto that shit on the spot.

@Cashmoney
can you really imagine what the US senate would approve? lol By the time they get done with it, probably be a tank..

@ Cashmoney:
Very few of 'your' tax dollars were spent bringing this thing to life. However many of my Australian tax dollars were spent over decades developing these utes. And we love them here.
All pontiac has had to do is give it an ugly nose, and left hand drive.
I really wanted to see these sold in the US, just to see how it would do (we all know the naysayers scream the loudest, but they could easily be a minority), since they are very common here in Australia. And hell if it did well, we have a Ford version we could send you as well!

Hey, who remembers the Subaru Baja? That thing looked far better than this, and look at how long that lasted.

Good...to help the Americans auto industries,and economie, maybe they should be bying cars that are made in the united State like Toyota,Honda,GM,Dodge...etc, not cars that are made in a foreing country like Australia.

I know they canned last week but I just saw a left hand drive enginering vehicle drive past my office in Melbourne today May 7, 2009.
White with a full G8 Pontiac front end. We see these drive past every now and again. Maybe not completely dead.
GM has a deal with the Govenment here. All engineering vehicles must be crushed and cannot be sold. Seems strange GM is still testing it after they killed it.
