13 miles per gallon!?!? That's waaay too low. Don't high end Aston Martons have that MPG?! I respect Pontiac for coming out with a car like this but count this as another dud for domestics. That fuel economy is horrible. At that price range, You can almost get a sweetheart deal for a Corvette - minus 2 passengers. Or maybe A Cadillac CTS-V - plus 15K or so....On second thought, maybe it is a good deal. But the gas mileage!!

I agree, numbers seem off. If a ZR1 with 200+ more hp can get those numbers, then something is off. Granted a ZR1 weighs about 600 lbs less, but still. At least it does better then the SRT8 though, that is 13/19.

Have to wait and see what the numbers for the Camaro SS are.

that thing is bad ass i drove a G8 gt last weekend and was like WTF?! it feels like a bimmer for that price and it preforms like a m5? wow i must say im impressed, and if your buying a 40k car with a V8 you arent looking at MPG

Avatar:

True muscleoverrice, but my GTO is now EPA rated at 15/23 (was 17/25) with 400hp and 395 lb-ft of torque, weighs about 200 lbs less. Firehawk with 345hp is now rate at 17/25 (was 19/28) and weighs about 400 lbs less then a G8 GT at 15/24. With my driving, GTO generally gets about 2 miles less on the highway, can't speak much for city.

If we compare Firehawk to GTO, 200+ lbs, .3L displacement increase, and 16% increase in horsepower but loss of 2 MPG. The increase in power between G8 GXP and G8 GT is 15%, displacement increase is .2L, and weight increase should be nothing. So the GXP should be getting roughly 14/23 or 13/22. Manual 6 on a G8 GT and/or GXP might get better numbers then the auto 6s but not by much (stupid shift skip, but does get EPA numbers up).

K5:

Yeah, that's almost worth paying $40K for. No thanks

Sandman:

Friggin Sweeeet!

Out-of-work:

I wouldn't buy a car from a pissed-offed work force !!!

Cashmoney:

Whatever happened to the stickshift versio costing less than the auto. Maybe I'll pick one up in a few years when the price is below 20k just like the GTO.

For anyone interested check out the G8 Coupe. There's an article on edmunds. While this car is undeniably funny looking from certain angles(the rear end), the coupe somehow maintains the lines but makes the flow 10x better.

muscleoverrice:

@avatar

well my M3 is rated at 14/20 and that was 2.2 liters and 500 pounds less than a g8 gxp. ive never seen more than 18 avg in it so i would say 13/20 for the Pontiac is pretty dam good!

es5150:

Damn! My Suburban gets (supposedly) 16 city / 20 highway (actually get around 16 avg between both)... WTF?

Avatar:

Funny thing about that Cashmoney. The A4 GTO had a $1500 gas guzzler I think don't remember what it was exactly. The M6 didn't, but was a $695 option. So by getting a $695 option you actually saved $805 bucks.

@ out-of-work

Well lucky for you the GXP is not made by a pissed of work force.

I can't belive some of u yanks still thing that it is an American car built by American people!

Avatar:

Well, not built in America, but Holden is owned by GM which is an American company.

5thgear:

2009 model?!?! the gm yard here is still full with the 08's... i mean full, i think they didnt even sell 1 yet. its nice and maybe fun, but...you know

RX-7 Guy:

@Luke K:

The vital bits are all American made, in other words the powertrain. Fortunately that V8 is rock solid perhaps among the most reliable 400 HP car motors ever. If some overpaid autoworker starts screwing that up I hope they suffer poverty for the rest of their life. Really!
