Honda has unveiled the Honda Civic HFP Concept at the SEMA show today.

The HFP Concept takes the standard Civic Si and adds an HFP body kit, super-light alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers a lighter HFP exhaust system and an upgraded HFP suspension kit all of which improve the vehicles gas mileage without compromising its performance.

Honda didn't release final mpg figures for the concept.

PRESS RELEASE:

Honda also revealed a Civic Honda Factory Performance (HFP) Concept sedan that represents a new approach on performance improvement. With more consumer concern about fuel prices, future customers may want to maximize the performance of their vehicles without compromising fuel economy. Honda Access America, Honda's accessory development company, took on that challenge. Through aerodynamic improvements to the next generation HFP body kit, super-light alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers, a lighter HFP exhaust system and an upgraded HFP suspension kit, this concept offers the possibility of improving both fuel economy and performance. In fact, a very similar package has proven its worth on the race tracks of Japan on the Civic Type R race car, which campaigned in a spec series called the Super Taikyu Series.

jebus:

may improve quality but still uglaaaaaaay

jebus:

MPG not quality..

Jung:

So...no numbers? Pfft!

Totenglocke:

I agree, I want numbers.

It kills me that, unless I buy a hybrid, no new car I get will match my '96 Protege 1.5 liter in mpg. I've gotten 39 mpg while doing 75 mph (300 mile round trip, almost all highway) and the AC on the whole time -- and at 75 mph the engine is running at 3,500 rpm's. Even when I do mostly city driving I still get 35 mpg.

I still need to take my one friends advice sometime and actually do the speed limit for a whole tank and see what my mpg is.

sparky:

I own a 08 civic ES. This concept doesn't look any different, except for the ugly front paint on the bumper and paper tires. I'll trade seats thou..

One thing thou, reading the 08 advertisements you would think this to be a performance car - lol, nope - I can run faster in the 1/4 mile.

No thanks, i'll keep my 08.

Josh:

@Totenglocke

You can blame the government and CAFE for making auto manufacturers build in more junk and electronic nannies into our vehicles, causing more weight and subsequently, less MPG.

In regards to the car, it reminds me of those 1980's, early 90's bodykits that you wish would just go away. And those wheels... WTF? The stock Si is a beautiful lesson in simplicity, this design needs to die.

Totenglocke:

@Josh

I'm aware of that, which is why I complain so much about company's having 15 airbags in a car......it's just unnecessary weight. You can make it OPTIONAL for the super paranoid person, but why screw everyone over?

George:

@ Totenglocke:

Is it because the air bag lobbyists are paying the government a good deal to keep them in business??

Dean:

Those wheels and tack on skirt kits are just about as ugly as it gets. Wouldn't it be nice if the skirt kits could be stamped into the actual sheetmetal? But then everybody would have a skirt kit and shaved door handles.

Dan :

That is hideous! I cant believe money was actually spent to make such retarded looking wheels.

gm0n3y:

And the Civic keeps getting uglier.

Gary:

@Dan:

They didn't spend much, there was a variation of them on the one of the previous Civic Hybirds. Apparently they're low drag and low weight. But yes, they are ugly.

its ugly:

lol ugliest thing ive ever seen

Icester:

Oops! Someone missed the area under the grill with the white paint!

Nice shape, but ugly rims and WTF is up with the black area under the grill?
