ROUSH Unveils the 2009 P-51B Mustang Starting at $65,800

2009_roush_p_51b_mustang.jpg
ROUSH has unveiled the 2009 P-51B Mustang, which is based on the 2009 Ford Mustang chassis.

The P-51B Mustang is powered by Ford's 4.6L V8 that puts out 510 horsepower and 510 lb-ft. of torque. In order to get this much power ROUSH engineers replaced many of the engine's components with stronger parts. ROUSH also upgraded the clutch. 6-piston brakes, Cooper RS3 ultra-high performance tires and the ROUSH Stage 3 suspension were also added to the car.

Only 51 units are going to be produced with a starting price of $65,800.

PRESS RELEASE:

ROUSH® Performance continues their homage to the legendary World War II fighter plane with the 2009 P-51B™ Mustang, the second aviation-themed pony car from the Michigan-based manufacturer. This car, based on the 2009 Ford Mustang chassis, will be limited to just 51 numbered production vehicles in the 2009 model year^.

As with the previous 2008 ROUSH P-51A™ Mustang, introduced at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the 2009 P-51B will also have 510 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque matching it as the most powerful ROUSH Mustang ever produced. In order to get this type of power from the Ford 4.6L, 3-valve engine, ROUSH technicians replace many of the internal components with stronger parts including forged aluminum pistons (with an increased dish to lower the compression ratio from 9.8 to 8.6), forged steel H-Beam connecting rods and a forged steel crankshaft and there is an upgraded high-capacity fuel delivery system installed. ROUSH also upgrades the clutch and includes a custom-calibration for the ECM to manage the performance of the next-generation TVS2300 ROUSHcharger®.

Among the changes for the 2009 P-51B are a secondary sheave FEAD, the addition of the ROUSH 6-piston brakes which can be seen through the new black chrome wheels, and a ROUSH vent pod gauge with a boost gauge. The car will be fitted with the new Cooper RS3 ultra-high performance tires, which, combined with the ROUSH Stage 3™ suspension will give a road-hugging ride and nearly unmatched cornering ability. The Ford factory Vapor paint code will be accented with Olive Drab green badging to match the World War II motif, and a rear decklid black-out panel is included. The P-51B logo adorns the shifter ball, floor mats and is embroidered into the leather seating. Further matching the history of the fighter plane, which often saw different metal panels used to patch the planes back into flying and fighting condition, the six-piece ROUSH aerobody kit will have both Vapor and Silver colors utilized for a subtle, but highly unique, look on the road.

The 2009 P-51B continues the yellow and red checkerboard accents which pay tribute to the brave pilots of the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO (European Theater Operations) who were unofficially known as "The Yoxford Boys" after a village near their base. Its victory totals in air-to-air combat are the most of any P-51 group in the Eighth Air Force and third among all groups fighting in Europe. The 357th flew
313 combat missions between February 11, 1944 and April 25, 1945 and is officially credited by the US Air Force with having destroyed 595.5 German airplanes in the air and 106.5 on the ground.

Jack Roush has played a major role in designing both the 2008 ROUSH P-51A and the new 2009 P-51B Mustang, which ties into his affection for both the history of the fighter plane as well as his hobby of restoring and flying them.

"The 2009 ROUSH P-51B is really the closest thing we can do to truly match the performance and styling of the fighter plane," said Jack Roush. "Just like the airplane, the P-51B Mustang has the power to outrun most anything, can turn like virtually nothing else, and will make those other 'pilots' have second thoughts before engaging in a skirmish."

The 2009 ROUSH P-51B is now starting to arrive at ROUSH-authorized Ford dealers and has a suggested retail pricing starting at $65,800 including destination fees and gas guzzler taxes. The few options available include a ROUSH trunk tool kit, enhanced ROUSH resonator exhaust and an Escort Passport 9500ci radar/laser defense system. As with all ROUSH vehicles, the 2009 P-51B has an industry-leading 3 year/36,000 mile warranty.

Based in Livonia, Mich., "The Art of Performance Engineering" takes place at ROUSH Performance. To get a look behind the scenes at what goes on at ROUSH and how the vehicles and parts are designed, manufactured, tested and produced logon to www.ROUSHtv.com. In addition to the array of Ford Mustang and F-150 styling, handling and performance upgrades, a complete line of performance parts and crate engines are offered. For more information see your local ROUSH dealer, visit www.ROUSHperformance.com or telephone toll-free (800) 59-ROUSH.

^In addition to the 51 serialized units, ROUSH may build some non-serialized additional press and/or test vehicles above this number.

Noya:

How many "special" white trash Ferrari's are they going to push out?

SteelCity1981:

LOL, White trash, but yet i bet you couldn't afford one of these. Oh i'm sorry i didn't know white trash can afford a 50 plus grand car. idiot..........

lowest iq, aka white trash:

to Noya's defence: white trash is not about money but about attitude, mental richness.
Nobody can afford a 50k.

Noya:

I expected that comment from someone with a name of "SteelCity1981"...

Just to fill you in, the term "white trash Ferrari" is used for Mustangs and F-bodies that people of a certain personality type / socioeconomic status think are the coolest cars around and would never buy anything but a domestic automobile.

On another note, I could probably swing getting into one of these if the dealers didn't jack up the MSRP by $20k+, but I prefer to jump on good deals on cream puffs and lease takeovers on Japanese and European autos. Some cars I've owned / leased: 350z, 335i, 2005 Boxster S, IS350, e46 M3, Mitsu Evo GSR, etc. If you're buying a $20k+ car at $350+ a month, I would highly suggest leasing / lease takeover a higher end car.

ah hahahaha:

this only proves Noya is a complete fucktard. Mustangs have always been pony cars. The real white trash drove Camaros and Firebirds. Mustangs have always been for the average Joe.

This is typical from some an idiot that enjoys lease takeovers anyway. I suppose Noya likes sitting in the former guys ball sweat. Yeah I bet he enjoys it thoroughly.

zippy:

Nothing like a Mustang or Camaro thread to bring out the deep thinkers. Sheesh!

Sandman:

Uh oh, better hit the bathroom Noya, you got some import gizzle hanging off your chin.

Avatar:

Wow, a 2005 Boxster S, the poor man's wanna be 911. Sorry Noya, but as I stated before, I have thought about buying an M3 more then once and own a GTO and Firehawk aka F-body. Does this mean M3s are for 'white trash' now too? Oh, that's right, BMWs are like a$$holes, everyone has one, which is one of the reasons I don't. This, and the fact that I prefer to drive a few thousand miles before the car breaks because it is too highly strung.

Nope, looks like next on my list of cars is going to be a CTS-V, though I want to wait and see if they make a coupe version of it first. So is Sigma a 'white trash Ferrari' now too?

muscleoverrice:

lol i own a 69 camraro and an e92 m3 lol. where does that leave me?

Avatar:

A white trash a$$hole? Lol, j/king muscleoverrice

Noya-is-retarded:

So what I'm hearing is "Hello group, I'm Noya, and I can't afford to buy a car. Yes, I prefer to rent someone elses beater. It's true, I like the smell of the previous owner's fart squishing out of the seat whenever I sit down. My favorite part is at the end of every other year when I get to turn the car in and watch the $4000 I spent this year on my lease fall out of my pocket, wasted." You see.. poor decisions like this are why you can't afford to OWN a cool car.

Anonymous:

Yeah, Mustang is the true American car, modeled after the always-wonderful Ford Falcon.

On a side note, 1965-1970 & 2005-present are the only one's worth owning, but don't kid yourself that they're on another level than the Camaro and Firebird. That 'next level' domestic is solely occupied by the Corvette.

Back on Topic:

I think I'll wait for the P-51D Mustang w/ the V-12 Merlin engine. That should smoke anything in it's path!!

Todd:

Domestic/Import debate aside anyone else think those are some pretty impressive numbers for a naturally aspirated engine?? At least I didn't see any mention or a forced induction.

Nodos:

"includes a custom-calibration for the ECM to manage the performance of the next-generation TVS2300 ROUSHcharger" Its supercharged. Also with the compression dropping from 9.8-8.6 you know its forced induction. If NA, I expect the compression to go up.

muscleoverrice:

@avatar
lol and ivoted for obama so i guess im a white trash liberal asshole

Josh:

God some of you people are stupid... Used cars are not fart-pockets, and yes, all Mustangs, Camaro's, and Firetirds post 1972 are absolute junk and need to be burnt in a bon-fire.

If you truly think your "pony" car is a piece of craftsmanship, you probably wear a mullet or an american flag on the mudflap of your American truck. You can have American pride without looking like a jackass. Yes, the Mustang and F body cars had their markets, and there's people who will buy them for their intended purposes, but for god's sake, be realistic. To even compare a hunk of shit American car to a true piece of automotive engineering such as the M3 makes you look completely asenine and lacking any education beyond a GED. Go back to school please.

-jOSH

Todd:

RE: Nodos

Yeah I think you're right - good catch =D

Sandman:

"God some of you people are stupid..."

Coming from someone who signs their posts.

mf:

@Josh

The pos whitetrash cts-v compares fairly well to the m3/m5...

Just as the so called redneck, whitetrash, american car loving, losers need to figure its not the 60s/70s anymore, the yuppie, badgelovin, european car snobs, need to realise its not the 80s/90s anymore.

Jason:

@Noya:

This isn't your xbox kid, we aren't playing GT4. You probably drive a civic in real life. Only idiots lie to build themselves up.

Everyone, forget Noya, he's what we call a troll. Don't feed the trolls.

Avatar:

What I find funny is that no one compared an M3 to anything American on this thread. muscleoverrice said he owns one and I said I have thought about buying one more then once. Maybe -jOSH needs to go get his GED since he clearly a) can't read or b) has no reading comprehension?

And damn straight muscleoverrice, lol.

muscleoverrice:

@ Avatar
the CTS-v is suppose to out perform the m3, i would of considered the cts-v instead of the m3 if i knew what it was capable of when i bought the m3, but i think i would rather hear a v8 roar at 8500 RPM than a whine from supercharged v8

Avatar:

Agree with you there, hate that whine sound. However, apparently the super used on the LS9/LSA aren't that loud, the v8 sound over powers it. When GM was testing the 'Blue Devil', people said they could hardly hear the super running full out. Or if the super sounds like the one on the GT500, jet engines always sound great.

426Hemi:

Speaking of jet engines, I really wish Chrysler could bring back the Turbine.

Trey:

@ Noya....just cuz i have to

So if ur calling these "white trash" cars...then are you calling Carrol Shelby and Jack Roush white trash? since they are the ones coming out with them?

because if so you really ARE retarded

especially since shelby has done nothing but completely dominate Ferrari since the late 60's

Allen:

@Trey:

So what races have production Shelby cars beaten Ferrari in the past thirty years? Other than the glory days of the late sixties, I wasn't aware that Shelby ran anything at Le Mans anymore. Anything that'd beat Ferrari anyway...

Allen:

Oh, and about the shouting match above:

Those of you critiquing Noya for owning used cars: so you're tearing into him for not taking the biggest part of the loss on a depreciating asset... and no used car I've ever seen has been sold without the dealer first detailing the interior. Besides, if we are assuming ball-sweat was on the seats, wouldn't new cars have the ball-sweat of the mechanics who pulled them off the truck and onto the lot?

Noya: I'm sorry, but no one without significant amounts of money (and much better things to do other than talk here) has owned/owns that many cars. Its like when a bunch of "buy American" fanboys invaded Cars.com recently: even the employees of the company weren't impressed by the e-balls.

426Hemi: I'm surprised anyone remembered that. Well played sir.

What makes a Mustang "white trashy" is the styling. It just looks like you've: beaten your wife, screamed about illegal immigrants "took jer jobs," or looked at your sister and said "mmm" when you own a Mustang. That and only in America does it have any sort of following. Maybe some parts of the Outback (not the cities but elsewhere) like it, but otherwise, where in the world would you catch someone driving (and not taking lots of shit for driving) a Mustang?

The CTS-V is not a muscle car. Big Engine+Basic Suspension+ so-simple-you-know-it-was-designed-cheaply styling+ waving the American flag so hard it screams at you to stop= Muscle Car. The CTS-V has a tuned suspension, bred from Nurburgring Laps. The 427 Camaro of the sixties was bred from some guy dropping the engine in at his dealership until GM decided it could make money doing the same. The CTS-V is more or less what everyone else whose not an "American only" buyer has wanted in a car for the past twenty years: refined, well tuned, and well put together.

Cars I've personally owned: BMW 550i, Chevrolet Tahoe (still trying to fix that thing), and now a Toyota MR2. The Tahoe is a mess (its a old 96), but it never wasn't. The MR2 is a junkyard gem I'm trying to put back together. The 550i is the only new car I've ever owned. I tested it against several cars, American makes included, and concluded that none offered the level of refinement and handling prowess when I bought it. Today the CTS-V can be had for the same money, but not two years ago. And none still have the same feeling, and the same poise when you drive it. The Hyundai Genesis is a great example: Hyundai claims all the skid pad numbers it wants, but few expect it'd ever beat the 550i around a track.

Of course, those same few (and just about everyone else) will agree the Genesis looks better than the 550i. Damn you Bangle....

muscleoverrice:

@allen

make sure you do a 2zz swap on that mr2, fix the mistake that toyota did by putting a corolla engine in that 2000 pound car.

Noya:

Judging by the comments, are there any recent (+/- 5 years) college grads that know what quality is on this blog?

It's like me vs. a bunch of rednecks.

426Hemi:

@Noya

Who's NOT a redneck to you?

anon:

personally, i think most american cars are crap... built poorly, designed poorly, and perform poorly... however, some of these professionally "souped-up" vehicles are decent. Roush does a good job on this car, but i still wouldn't buy it... for $68K, i would rather save up another $15K and buy a Nissan GTR and blow this thing to kingdom come!

JDM ITR :

Well ladies, gents, and children. There is nothing wrong with buying the car that you like. Just criticizing people who like a car you don't like. Me I love Hondas and hate Mustangs not because they suck, and they don't, I just do. But lets face it, they sell!!! And people like Shelby, someone who know more about cars then everyone here including myself, wanted to build on it. So lets be ladies and gentlemen and applaud this master peace on the top of this page. Oh and I respect Mustangs because they are American made and they have lasted quite a loooong time. Oh and I've lived n Japan for the last 5 years and I can say it's not just Americans who like Mustangs. Ignorance can be bless, but only if no one catches it and throws you out. So yall read and read before you start blurting obscenities based on false facts and just play nice.

And on a final note leasing is financially smart if you plan to own different cars often. But there isn't anything wrong with buying new if you got the cash.

God Bless America
and pray for the Big 3...

Damn sexy car up there, got to hand it to them......
Go rice!!
