Last week it was reported that GM had suspended all talks with Chrysler about an apparent merger after the U.S. treasury denied GM's request for aid to buy Chrysler. Now it're being reported that Hyundai may be interested.
According to Reuters, Hyundai and Chrysler's owners, Cerberus Capital Management, have been in talks about Hyundai acquiring the Jeep brand. Both automakers have not released an official statement about the discussions.
Before the GM and Chrysler talks took place, Renault-Nissan was also having talks with Cerberus to acquire parts of Chrysler. Now that the GM talks are off Renault-Nissan may renew its discussion.
Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli recently stated "As an independent company we will continue to explore multiple strategic alliances or partnerships as we investigate growth opportunities around the world that would aid our return to profitability."

Can't imagine a Hyundai Jeep Wrangler, probably look like a Suzuki Samurai. Talk about a take over and a roll over deal! lol..

The Jeep Wrangler is the only domestic that I actually like. Granted, if you're not a Mt. Biker, hiker, shooter, etc., you have no point in owning one. And even then, a Subaru or any other AWD crossover can do 95% of what most people driving a Wrangler use it for. Not to mention the MPG is horrendous. A friend had one and it was getting like 11mpg in the city, 15mpg on the freeway.

Owning two Jeep Wranglers, one with a 4 cyl and one with a 6 cyl, I can say with 100% experience that the Jeep Wrangler has no match. Forget Hummer, FJ, etc.. They simply can't do what you can do with a Jeep, no contest, no way... They also have great resale value..
Now, if you use a Jeep like you use a Subaru or an FJ ( a larger subaru IMO), then you bought the wrong vehicle. Unless of course you like how you look in a jeep and enjoy taking the top off!
I miss my jeeps and they never had a mechanical issue I didn't cause lol... But they are not commuters by a long shot..

Competitor websites to TheTorqueReport -- the day it was posted, as well as my own sources close to the proceedings.
Sorry, not trying to sound like a jerk. Sometimes TTR is a little, ahem, Geo Metro-like in its speed and accuracy.
