Earlier this year VW execs stated that the Scirocco was not going to make it to the U.S. due to the declining dollar and the fact that it could cannibalize sales of the GTI. Well now it looks like the automaker is reconsidering it.
Apparently the outcry from Scirocco enthusiasts and the popularity of the car in Europe has forced VW to reconsider bringing the Scirocco to the U.S.
A final decision has not been made, but if VW can figure out how to position it so that it doesn't steal GTI sales they should bring it!

Auto execs are idiots.

I'm gonna go ahead and predict some of the posting content.
"The quarter panels look like a Mini Cooper." "The middle of the car looks like a Honda." "The front looks like a Euro Ford or Mazda."
Unless they treat it like an econo-car or a real fire-breather, no doubt it will eat a few sales from the rest of the VW 2-door fleet.

What is wrong with the leadership at VW? Rebadge a Crapler minvan as a VW, and not bring the Scirocco to the U.S.
Looks like corporate suicide to me....

What, author doesn't want to mention that the US dollars recent pounding of the Euro may make exports more attractive?

2 VWs = 2 bad experiences. Is it me or the POS VW quality?
I'll never buy a VW again. It's all show and no go, literally!

A base GTi is $22-23k, a nicely loaded one is $28k.
They'll have to price this at $30-35k. At the that price, it better be packing the 250+hp version of the 2.0 FSI and DSG as standard.

True, but even at US1 is Eu2, no one is getting finance.....
In principle, this car isnt much more expensive to make then a Golf. So it is down to calculating fixed/variable. Yeah, VW could use this car to increase its foothold in the US. Then it should start at US25k.

Looks like what the new Honda CRX should have looked like...I really like it, but I'll not buy a VW again. Not when I KNOW I can get 250k+ reliable and trustworthy miles out of a Honda or Toyota.

its a nice car just wish they didnt feel the need to blow smoke up our asses on the reasoning.
"due to the declining dollar"
uhm, yeah that doesnt exactly hold true for the moment and for the foreseeable future now. If there was any opportunity of making money, no one in their right mind would turn that down.
"Apparently the outcry from Scirocco enthusiasts"
yes because there are so many enthusiast in a country that has never even seen a Scirocco, right? lol
Just bring it and leave the market crap back on the white board.
